Texas lawmaker says hearings and criminal probes will pursue groups suspected of financing unlawful activity tied to Antifa.

Republican Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas said Thursday that Congress and federal authorities are preparing what he described as a “two-front fight” against organizations accused of financially backing Antifa-related activity.

Gill’s remarks followed comments by FBI Director Kash Patel, who said on “The Dan Bongino Show” that the bureau has identified significant funding streams connected to Antifa and is conducting a financial investigation that could result in enforcement actions. Patel’s statements were first reported by the Washington Examiner.

Appearing on Fox Business’ “The Evening Edit,” Gill said lawmakers intend to hold hearings examining whether nonprofit entities are improperly using tax-exempt status to channel money into political violence linked to Antifa.

Host Elizabeth MacDonald asked, “Will you guys basically point out George Soros’ groups? There’s a bunch of that big network that is funding these Antifa riots. Will you name names, try to call them in, and do you think that the Justice Department, and rather the Treasury Department with the IRS, will they audit these groups and revoke their tax free status?”

Gill responded, “Yes, absolutely.”

“That is the goal here. The goal is if these organizations are getting tax-free benefits and they are engaged in political activity illegally, that status needs to be revoked. And we need to do that in a very clear and public way. The purpose of these hearings is to get the information so that we can make that determination. But secondly, I think that if you have these organizations that are funding illegal activity in the United States, people need to go to jail for that.”

A video of the exchange aired on Fox Business and was shared publicly through a Rumble clip.

Gill described the approach as addressing both unlawful political coordination and direct financial support for criminal conduct.

“That is a much broader criminal conspiracy that needs to be dealt with. So I do think this is a two-front fight for us,” Gill said. “It is going after organizations that are engaged in illegal political activity, but also going after organizations that are funding illegal activity in general, these riots, and those people need to be held accountable as well.”

Records show that the Headwaters Foundation for Justice awarded more than $3.3 million to activist organizations involved in organizing anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests in Minneapolis. Public grant records indicate funding flowed to groups that participated in anti-ICE protest activity.

The Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, has also distributed tens of millions of dollars to progressive advocacy groups nationwide. According to publicly available grant data, the foundation provided a $2 million contribution to the Sunrise Movement, which promoted the Stop Cop City/Defend the Atlanta Forest coalition. That coalition has been linked by some critics to Antifa-associated anarchist extremism.

Gill said forthcoming hearings would be aimed at gathering information to determine whether tax-exempt organizations are engaging in prohibited political conduct or financing unlawful activity, adding that those found to be doing so should face accountability under federal law.
