LUNENBURG — Have you ever wanted to try your hand at mixed-media art? Are you a seasoned artist who wants to incorporate different types of media into your paintings? Then this could be the workshop series for you.
The staff at the Lunenburg Public Library is welcoming the community to tap into its creativity this March with a free Mixed-Media Art Workshop Series and complementary exhibit designed for artists of all experience levels.
The hands-on series is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, from 1:30 until 4 p.m.; Friday, March 13, from 6 until 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the library, located at 1023 Massachusetts Ave.
The series welcomes beginners interested in trying mixed-media art as well as experienced artists looking to expand their creative practice.
Participants will explore the history of mixed-media art and learn about notable artists while creating their own original pieces through guided instruction and individual support.
All materials are provided, including mixed-media paper, acrylic paint, oil pastels, ink, adhesive, paper images, fabric, string, and more. Participants may work from personal photos, their imagination, or images supplied by the instructor, and are welcome to bring additional materials to incorporate into their artwork.
Participants may register for one, two, or all three workshops. Artwork created during the series will be featured in an instructor-curated exhibit on display throughout the month of April in the library’s Wallace Community Room.
This program is open to participants ages 16 and up and is supported in part by the Lunenburg Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
“We were so fortunate to be the place that local visual artist Bridie Wolejko thought of to host her series of workshops for the community,” said Lydia Paolilli, Assistant Library Director of the Lunenburg Public Library. “And grateful to the Lunenburg Cultural Council for sponsoring this series. Adding in an exhibit of artwork for the month of April was a wonderful addition we were happy to support, and I hope all our visitors can find time to stop by and admire their neighbors’ artwork.”
Eager patrons of the arts are also welcome to stop by the library to see Wolejko’s own work on display in a new exhibit titled “Harmony and Discord: Nature’s Beauty, Humanity’s Impact” from Monday, March 2 through Monday, March 30.
