Ubisoft Toronto has laid off approximately 40 employees, marking the latest sound of job cuts as the video game publisher continues to restructure its global operations.

The layoffs affect a range of roles at the Toronto studio and are apart of a broader cost-cutting effort by parent company, Ubisoft, which has been scaling back projects and staffing across multiple locations over the past year. The company said the decision was not a reflection of employee performance but rather a result of shifting business priorities.

Ubisoft confirmed that the Toronto studio will remain operational despite the cuts. Development on the studio’s major projects, including the long – awaited Splinter Cell Remake, is expected to continue.

In a statement, Ubisoft said it is providing impacted employees with severance packages, continued benefits for a limited time, and career transition support. The company did not indicate whether additional layoffs could follow.

The cuts come as the video game industry continues to face widespread layoffs, driven by rising development costs, delayed releases, and companies adjusting after years of rapid expansion. Dozens of studios across North America and Europe have announce job reductions in recent months.

Ubisoft Toronto, one of the company’s key Canadian studios, has previously contributed to major franchises including Far Cry, Watch Dogs, and Rainbow Six. The latest layoffs underscore the ongoing uncertainty facing workers across the gaming sector.
