LUNENBURG — The skate park crew is offering up another opportunity to support their fundraising efforts in the form of a friendly pickleball tournament.

The President’s Day Pickleball Playoff is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, at Game On in Fitchburg, cohosted by the Eagle House Supporters.

The event will go like this – two age brackets, with 10- to 15-year-olds beginning at 9:30 a.m. and then 16 and older at 1 p.m. Teams of two will compete for bragging rights and prizes and sponsorship opportunities are available.

“Get ready to dink, serve and rally at the pickleball tournament,” said Lunenburg Skate Park President Anthony Caiozzo. “This fun and competitive event welcomes players of all ages and skill levels, with fantastic prizes and great community vibes.”

There are only 64 participants slot for each bracket, so it’s first come, first served — pun intended. As an added incentive, they are offering sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and supporters, from event and tournament sponsors to court and match sponsors.

“It’s a great way to boost your visibility while supporting a fantastic cause,” Caiozzo said.

They unfortunately had to cancel their Shark Tank style fundraiser slated for December due to “lack of entrepreneurial entries,” but that did not deter them or their fervor for making the skate park a reality.

“While there was strong interest from the community, we did not receive enough viable pitches to make the event successful,” Caiozzo said. “Rather than pause our momentum, our dedicated team quickly pivoted and looked for an alternative way to raise funds. We are excited to now be hosting a pickleball tournament fundraiser in conjunction with the Eagle House Supporters, keeping our mission moving forward. Let’s make this tournament a smashing success together!”
