White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that an alleged 2006 phone call between President Donald Trump and the former Palm Beach police chief undermines what she described as years of “establishment narratives” regarding Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Leavitt’s remarks came during a White House press briefing following the Department of Justice’s release of a document summarizing a 2019 FBI interview with former Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter.

The document outlines Reiter’s recollection of a conversation he says he had with Trump in July 2006, around the time Epstein was under investigation in Florida.

According to the FBI summary, Reiter claimed that Trump called him and said, “Thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this,” referring to Epstein.

Reiter also reportedly recalled Trump describing Ghislaine Maxwell as “evil” and urging authorities to focus attention on her. The document further states that Trump told Reiter he had previously removed Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club and that he was “one of the very first people to call” once news spread that Epstein was being investigated.

Reiter later told the Miami Herald that the alleged phone call occurred in July 2006, during the early stages of the criminal inquiry into Epstein’s activities.

Addressing the report, Leavitt said she could not confirm whether the call definitively took place but argued that, if accurate, it aligns with Trump’s long-standing public statements about distancing himself from Epstein.

“Look, it was a phone call that may or may not have happened in 2006. I don’t know the answer to that question,” Leavitt told reporters. “What I’m telling you is that what President Trump has always said is that he kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club because Jeffrey Epstein was a creep.”

She emphasized that Trump has consistently maintained he severed ties with Epstein years before Epstein’s later federal charges and conviction.

“That remains true,” she added. “And this call, if it did happen, corroborates exactly what President Trump has said from the beginning.”

Leavitt also suggested that the FBI document complicates narratives she says have been promoted by some media outlets regarding Trump’s past association with Epstein.

“I’m sure many of you, when you read that alleged FBI report, probably thought to yourself, ‘Wow, this really cracks our narrative that we’ve been trying to push about this president for many years,’” she said during the briefing.

She concluded by indicating that the administration considers the matter settled in light of the released information. “So we’re moving on from that,” Leavitt said.

The release of the FBI interview summary adds another layer to the public record surrounding Epstein’s case and the various figures connected to him over the years, though questions remain about the full context and details of the alleged 2006 conversation.
