LIBERTY, NY – The Village of Liberty Police Department’s beautification project, funded by a 2025 Sullivan 180 grant, was recently completed. The project included lobby redesign, new lighting, signage, a garden planted by students, and a mural by Nora Liddle. New community features include a Little Free Library with the Rotary and a Little Free Pantry with leadership Sullivan and the PBA.

Hope Blecher from Hope’s Compass said the library not only complements the garden, it also helps the community stay connected to books. “There are books for all ages, and we hope that it does act as beautification and personal enhancement for people.”

She said that the Liberty Police Department will help maintain the unit. “I came here today, put some books in. There are books here, and the books that do not fit are brought to the police department. And then when the stock goes low, they fill it up again.”

She said. There’s no guilt when taking a book. “If you take it, you don’t have to feel like, oh my gosh, I have to return that exact book or another one because it’s a give and take for the community.”
