LEOMINSTER — Workers Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its newest full-service branch in Leominster on Wednesday. The move marks their return to the city that the credit union first started serving in 1994.

“Community banking is the bedrock of local communities,” said Jay Champion, president and CEO of Workers Credit Union. “Workers Credit Union exists to provide solutions for people here in Leominster to make their dreams come true. Your dreams are our purpose.”

A representative of Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella presented a certificate to Champion commemorating the occasion and wishing the credit union success in the years to come.

“This is an investment in our community and in our region,” said Roy M. Nascimento, president and CEO North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce. “We are excited about Workers’ new location in  Leominster and to see what the future holds.”

Last year Workers Credit Union made more than 5,000 loans in North Central Massachusetts.

“Workers being in Leominster is a huge statement of commitment,” added Ron McLean, President and CEO, of the Cooperative Credit Union Association. “Credit unions like Workers are a partner to help affordability.”

The grand opening ceremony featured guided tours of the new facility, refreshments and information about WCU’s community partnerships, products and services. The new branch offers the full range of Workers Credit Union services, including personal and business banking, lending products, and a commitment to helping members achieve their personal and business goals.

The branch replaces the Workers Credit Union branch that had been about 100 yards away in the center of Twin Cities Plaza, moving up the hill and across Merriam Avenue to the site of the former GFA Federal Credit Union branch, near Five Guys hamburger shop.

Workers Credit Union, a member-owned and member-focused $2.4 billion credit union, is building the financial wellness of its nearly 122,000 members through products and support that empowers them to build a better life for themselves and their families. Headquartered in Littleton, Workers Credit Union has been serving communities in Massachusetts for more than 110 years. Workers Credit Union is a Community Development Financial Institution and Low-Income Designated Credit Union.
