As always, there’s a lot to like about Lowell — and the city celebrates that in a big way as it prepares to celebrate its 200th birthday in 2026.

Part of the celebration includes an art show at the Whistler House Museum of Art. Here are the particulars:

“In the spring of 2026, the WHMA will be celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the City of Lowell, circa 1826. Lowell holds a pivotal place in American History as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Its textile mills transformed manufacturing, labor, and urban life. Today, Lowell’s preserved canals, mills, and neighborhoods stand as enduring symbols of American ingenuity, social change, and the complex legacy of industrialization.

Exhibit Criteria: We seek works in all mediums that showcase themes inspired by the long and rich history of the City of Lowell. From exterior to interior locations of the textile mills, to the urban landscape, and all other artistic interpretations. New works are encouraged.

Juror: Guest Juror and WHMA Exhibition Committee Members.

Entry Fee: Members $30 / Non-members can receive a reduced 50% entrance fee of $15 if they become a new artist member for $40 ($55 total). All artists must be current with their dues to participate. Please mail all checks to: Whistler House Museum of Art at 243 Worthen Street, Lowell, MA 01852, or pay through PayPal.

Entries: JPEG images (3 maximum) will be accepted on CD or emailed to [email protected]. Preferred file size should be less than 2MB. The number of works accepted will be determined by number of entries.

Framing Requirements: Work must be appropriately framed and ready to hang using wire and eye screws. Please be sure that your eye screws and wire are between a quarter or a third down from the top of the frame, because the WHMA uses filament to hang their shows. Gallery wrap canvases will be accepted, but edges need to be painted/finished. No saw tooth hangers please.

Size Restrictions: Small works and easel size works are preferred. Large works will be accepted based on ability to accommodate in the Gallery. All sculptures must be easy to move to protect them during events,
