Devin Niles tallied a pair of goals to power a well-balanced attack, as the Fitchburg State University men’s hockey team skated to a 7-2 victory over Framingham State on Thursday night at the Wallace Civic Center.

The biggest goal of the night came off the stick of Hunter Dunn. Dunn made it a 3-1 game in the second period with a shorthanded tally. The Falcons went on to score four goals in the final period to pull away.

The Falcons (11-5, 5-1), who entered the game on a two-game winning streak, took a 2-0 lead after the opening period.

Niles got Fitchburg State on the board following passes by Aleksei Filimonov and Tye Battipaglia. Less than two minutes later, the lead doubled when Anthony De Luca found the back of the net. Picking up assists were Nicklas Millhorn and John Mantone.

Framingham State made it a 2-1 game in the second period thanks to a tally off the stick of Michael Kennedy. But Dunn made a huge play later in the middle period when he scored at 14:32 with the Falcons shorthanded.

Goals by Alexandre Bondarev, Marcus Macchioni, Trenton Skaggs and Niles allowed the Falcons to cruise past Framingham State (4-11-0, 1-5-0).

Max Macchioni turned aside 20 of 22 shots for the Falcons. Alex Gerard stopped all three shots he faced in relief in the third period. The Falcons are now 7-3 on home ice.
