Rep. Riley: Use MLK Day to heal divided nation (VIDEO)

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County NAACP hosted a Martin Luther King Junior celebration at the First Baptist Church in Monticello on Monday.

Representative Josh Riley (D, NY-19) addressed the congregants, speaking on the legacy of Doctor King and questioning the vital importance of this day during these controversial times.

“The idea that when somebody suffers injustice or hardship directly, that affects all of us indirectly, that means we’re all in this together,” he said. “And when you see what’s happening across this country right now, I think it’s really important that we take this day to step back, give each other the benefit of the doubt and really take Dr. King’s words to heart, and try to heal the divides in this country, because that is, what he would want for us, and he would want us to do it in a way that is, really, truly fighting back against the injustices we’re seeing.”
