Newly released video obtained Friday shows an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer’s perspective in the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, offering a close-up view of the confrontation that preceded the gunfire.
The footage, shared by Alpha News, shows the ICE agent using his cellphone to record the license plate of Good’s vehicle, which was blocking a lane of traffic. According to the video, the agent exited his vehicle to document the plate number as Good’s wife, Rebecca, stood nearby filming the agent with her own phone and verbally confronting him.
“That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you,” Good is heard telling the agent.
Rebecca continued addressing the officer as he filmed the plate. “That’s okay. We don’t change our plates every morning, just so you know,” she said. “It will be the same plate when you come back to us later. That’s fine … You want to come at us? You want to come at us? I say go get yourself a big lunch, big boy. Go ahead.”
Seconds later, another agent approached Good’s vehicle and repeatedly instructed her to exit the car. The video shows Good reversing briefly, then appearing to look directly at the officer filming before accelerating forward. Multiple shots were fired, and the vehicle crashed into a parked car along the side of the road.
The footage also shows Rebecca attempting to approach the vehicle and shouting toward Good just before the car surged forward. A dog is visible sitting in the backseat near an open window as the events unfold.
The administration of President Donald Trump has maintained that the ICE officer acted in self-defense. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters Wednesday that the shooting officer had been the victim of a vehicle attack in June, when an anti-ICE activist rammed into him and dragged him along the roadway.
Prominent Democratic officials have disputed that account, arguing that Good posed no threat and was attempting to flee. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey publicly called on ICE to “get the fuck out” of the city following the shooting.
In a statement released the day of the incident, the Democratic-controlled Minneapolis City Council said, “Renee was a resident of our city who was out caring for her neighbors this morning and her life was taken today at the hands of the federal government.” The council added, “Anyone who kills someone in our city deserves to be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Federal authorities have not announced any charges related to the shooting, and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
