President Donald Trump on Monday launched a blistering attack on Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz following Walz’s announcement that he will not seek reelection, accusing the Democratic governor of corruption and mismanagement while predicting further fallout from ongoing investigations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Walz could leave office before the end of his term and asserted that the governor’s political career had unraveled after scrutiny of alleged fraud tied to Minnesota’s social services programs.
“Minnesota’s corrupt governor will possibly leave office before his term is up but, in any event, will not be running again because he was caught, redhanded,” Trump wrote, alleging that Walz and political allies were involved in the misuse of taxpayer funds. Trump said he believed additional facts would emerge and portray what he described as a deeply dishonest network of individuals.
Trump went on to accuse Walz of having “destroyed the state of Minnesota,” while broadening his criticism to other Democratic governors. He singled out California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, saying they had done, in his view, an even “more dishonest and incompetent job.”
“No one is above the law!” Trump added.
Walz announced earlier that he would not pursue a third term as governor, a decision that comes as federal prosecutors and congressional Republicans continue to examine fraud cases involving state-administered programs. Walz’s office has not responded publicly to Trump’s remarks.
The president’s comments underscore the intensifying political clash surrounding Minnesota’s leadership as investigations continue and the state’s 2026 political landscape begins to take shape.
