LANCASTER — South Lancaster Academy senior and poet Anthony Salomone earned third place in a regional writing contest recently and just last month celebrated the publication of his own book of poems with a book launch event.
Salamone sent in a submission for the Quabbin Quilts: Rock Walls & Open Pastures 2025 regional writing contest, receiving recognition for a collection of three original poems.
Salomone’s winning submission included “We Cast Ourselves Off,” “Our Timely Pasture Is in a Standstill,” and “I Am Speechless Upon Witnessing Arranged Rocks and Infinite Pastures.” His work was selected from entries submitted by writers across the region.
The opportunity to participate in the contest was introduced by South Lancaster Academy English teacher Dr. Roger Prather, who encouraged Salomone to submit his work. Inspired by the contest’s prompt, Salomone completed all three poems in a single day.
“As a writer, I can express my true self to others without any fear,” Salomone said.
In addition to his recent award, Salomone reached another major milestone in September 2025 when he became a published author. His book, Ant-Thology Salamander: A Creative Writing Portfolio/Anthology, a collection of original creative writing, is available for purchase on Amazon.
South Lancaster Academy recognized Salomone’s achievement with a book launch chapel on Dec. 16, 2025. The event opened with remarks from Dr. Prather, who shared his own experiences as a writer and emphasized the significance of publishing a book, particularly at the high school level. He encouraged students to pursue their passions with persistence and commitment.
Salomone addressed the student body during the chapel, discussing his journey as a writer and the inspiration behind his work. He also read an excerpt from his writing, offering insight into his creative process. During his remarks, Salomone spoke about the discipline and perseverance required to complete the book, noting the importance of maintaining mental and physical health while working toward long-term goals.
The event concluded with a book signing and meet-and-greet, giving students the opportunity to speak with Salomone and celebrate his accomplishment.
South Lancaster Academy administrators and faculty expressed pride in Salomone’s success and look forward to supporting his continued growth as a writer beyond his high school years.
