A Methuen man was charged with shooting and killing his mother in her home, the Essex DA announced Tuesday.

Anthony Nunez-Romano, 26, was arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge for allegedly killing his mother, Dominga Romano, 55, of Methuen, in Lawrence District Court. Nunez-Romano was also charged with possessing a firearm without a firearm identification card and defacing the serial number of a firearm.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail Tuesday, the DA’s office said.

At around 5 p.m. Monday, Methuen Police were called for a wellbeing check at a home on Lyndale Avenue in Methuen, according to the DA’s office. Romano’s body was found inside, and responders pronounced the victim deceased.

Nunez-Romano was also found at the scene and taken into custody, according to media reports.

Assistant District Attorney Paige Timko represented the Commonwealth at the arraignment, and Nunez-Romano was represented by attorney Joseph Perullo, the DA’s office said.
