New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation, along with misdemeanor assault, following an alleged altercation that occurred in early December.

According to court filings cited by Boston 25, the incident took place on Dec. 2, one day after the Patriots’ “Monday Night Football” victory over the New York Giants. Prosecutors allege Diggs was involved in a physical confrontation that led to the criminal charges now pending against him.

Diggs’ attorney, Michael DiStefano, appeared remotely in Massachusetts court on Tuesday and requested that the police report related to the case be impounded, arguing that the details should remain sealed from public view. During the hearing, DiStefano told the court that Diggs had made a financial offer to resolve the dispute with the alleged victim, according to Boston 25.

The judge did not immediately rule on the request to seal the report, saying the matter would be taken under advisement with a decision to follow.

Diggs, a high-profile NFL star, has denied the allegations. The case remains pending as the court considers both the defense’s procedural requests and the underlying charges.
