NEW CITY – The Rockland County Legislature has approved an $87.8 million capital project for the County Sewer District No. 1.

The district serves Ramapo excluding Suffern, Clarkstown excluding Upper Nyack, and 150 units in Orangetown.

The project involves major pumping station improvements designed to modernize infrastructure and enhance system reliability

The vote was unanimous.

Lawmakers also requested home rule authority from the state to allow the creation of the CR Clean Water & Sewer Authority, to replace the County Sewer District No. 1.

Under the current structure, the sewer district needs legislative approval to bond. The new authority would streamline the process and reduce the approval timeline for capital projects.
