Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn issued a sweeping open letter to President Donald Trump, warning that Americans have reached a breaking point and insisting that the coming year must mark a decisive shift toward accountability across government.

In the letter, which Flynn released publicly on X, he said he was addressing the president on behalf of “a very frustrated 79 million Americans” who supported Trump, along with millions more who refuse to be sidelined. Flynn formally designated 2026 as “THE YEAR OF ACCOUNTABILITY,” framing it as a national demand rather than a partisan message.

“Dear Mr. POTUS,” Flynn wrote, addressing the president directly. “I know you are listening to We the People. This message is sent on behalf of a very frustrated 79 million Americans who voted for you—and millions more who refuse to be ignored.”

Flynn continued by announcing the declaration itself. “Therefore, we are designating 2026 as: THE YEAR OF ACCOUNTABILITY,” he wrote, before explaining the urgency behind the message. “Because the country is at a breaking point.”

Throughout the letter, Flynn described what he called a collapse of public trust and a concentration of power in bureaucracies and unelected institutions. “Our freedoms are being chipped away in plain sight,” he wrote. “Our government has grown bloated, arrogant, and unaccountable. Public trust has not merely declined; it has been obliterated.”

He argued that ordinary citizens have been sidelined while political and institutional leaders shield one another from consequences. “Power has been stripped from citizens and hoarded by bureaucrats, agencies, and unelected elites,” Flynn wrote. “Those who call themselves leaders protect each other while the American people pay the price.”

Flynn stressed that his message was not intended as a party-line attack, writing, “At its core, this is not partisan. All Americans are demanding ACCOUNTABILITY.” He added that Americans “reject the lies, the gaslighting, the censorship, and the deliberate erosion of our lived reality over the past decade,” concluding, “We remember what was done. We know who did it. We are no longer willing to move on without consequences.”

Near the end of the letter, Flynn posed a direct challenge to the president. “So, Mr. POTUS, the question for you to answer is simple,” he wrote. “Will you stand with We the People, or will you protect the system that failed us?”

He warned that failure to confront what he described as entrenched corruption would have lasting consequences. “If you do not, as our Founders warned, the deep-state concentration of power in government will lead to greater corruption and eventual tyranny,” Flynn wrote, adding that such an outcome would permanently damage the president’s historical legacy.

Flynn closed the letter with a pledge of continued support, coupled with a final warning. “We will stand with you through thick and thin, as we always have—but you must respect our wishes,” he wrote. “Make 2026 the year of ACCOUNTABILITY.”

A shortened version of the message was also posted publicly under the headline “We The People demand ACCOUNTABILITY!” and addressed directly to POTUS, amplifying the call beyond the full letter and signaling that Flynn’s appeal was meant for a national audience as much as the president himself.
