Nearly nine out of ten attendees at last weekend’s Turning Point USA (TPUSA) AmericaFest said they support a complete halt to all immigration into the United States, including both illegal and legal immigration, according to a straw poll conducted during the event.
The poll, which asked participants, “Would you support a moratorium on new immigration into the United States?”, revealed an overwhelming consensus among attendees. Roughly 90 percent responded in favor of an immigration moratorium, while only about 10.5 percent said they opposed such a move.
AmericaFest attendees are largely made up of young, conservative activists and students from across the country, making the results a snapshot of sentiment among a rising generation on the political right.
This year’s AmericaFest carried added significance, as it marked the first major gathering since the assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk in September.
Despite the somber backdrop, the event drew large crowds and featured policy discussions, speeches, and grassroots activism centered on issues such as national identity, security, and the future of the conservative movement.
In addition to immigration policy, the straw poll asked attendees to rank what they believe are the greatest threats facing the United States today.
Radical Islam was ranked as the top concern, with many respondents citing its spread into American communities largely through immigration channels. Following closely behind were communism and mass migration, which attendees also viewed as major risks to national stability, sovereignty, and cultural cohesion.
The strong support for halting immigration comes amid a dramatic rise in the foreign-born population of the United States. Under the Biden administration, the foreign-born population reached an all-time high of approximately 52 million people.
In fewer than four years, nearly seven million immigrants were added to the U.S. population, marking one of the fastest increases in modern American history.
On an annual basis, the United States admits more than one million legal immigrants through permanent residency programs, in addition to hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals who enter the country on temporary work visas.
Over the span of a decade, the country takes in close to 10 million legal immigrants, many of whom later obtain U.S. citizenship through naturalization.
For many AmericaFest attendees, these figures underscore concerns about border enforcement, national security, economic strain, and cultural integration.
The straw poll results suggest that among young conservatives, there is growing momentum behind calls for a sweeping pause on immigration as policymakers debate the long-term impact of record-level migration on the nation’s future.
