In a major development, war-hit Ukraine has agreed to pull out troops from the eastern Donetsk region. This demilitarization effort would take place, under possible peace terms with Russia.

This move is part of ongoing negotiations between the US, Ukraine, and Russia, aiming to end the nearly four-year conflict.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined a 20-point peace framework, which includes demilitarization, security guarantees, and economic support.

The proposal involves creating a demilitarized zone in the Donetsk region, with international forces potentially monitoring the area. However, territorial disputes remain a major sticking point, with Russia demanding Ukraine cede control of the region. Zelenskyy has emphasized that any agreement would require a referendum, ensuring the Ukrainian people decide their own fate.

“We sense that America wants to reach a final agreement and from our side there is full cooperation. Ukraine has never been, and will never be, an obstacle to peace,” Zelensky came to X platform with a video speech to announce that.

“The key is that Russia must not sabotage this diplomacy and must take ending the war 100% seriously. If it doesn’t, then additional pressure on Russia must follow,” warned the Ukraine President. “The world has all the instruments needed to make that pressure effective and ensure that peace is achieved.”

“We are working actively and doing everything necessary to ensure that the documents come to fruition and that they are realistic,” Zelensky said.

The decision came after special envoys Rustem Umerov and Andrii Hnatov delivered a detailed report following their meetings with the American team.

According to Zelensky, “They worked productively with envoys of President Trump, and several draft documents have now been prepared. In particular, these include documents on security guarantees for Ukraine, on recovery, and on a basic framework for ending this war.”

“The points for today have been set in such a way as to correspond to the objective of actually ending the war and the need to prevent a third Russian invasion. Each round of negotiations and meetings contributes to safeguarding Ukraine’s interests, and we will continue this work in the same constructive manner,” said Zelensky.
