NEWBURGH – Christmas came three days early for the City of Newburgh as the state’s regional economic development council awarded a total of $10.9 million for three major projects

In the state’s annual consolidated funding cycle, it awarded $6.9 million for Liberty Street redevelopment, $2 million for reconstruction of the pier on the Hudson River, and $2 million for the privately developed One Lafayette housing and mixed-use project.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said the city is starting to see Newburgh winning on several fronts.

“This is the revitalization that we have articulated. When we look at other municipalities in the Hudson Valley, we are getting by far the most funding and support for these major, major projects, even our infrastructure projects,” he said.

Other state funding for projects in Orange County include $259,000 for the City of Port Jervis to develop a plan for brownfields remediation on 21 properties; $66,800 to market the Storm King Art Center in Cornwall; $900,000 for Choice Films for a sound stage in Montgomery; $500,000 for Kraftify to develop Drowned Lands Brewery at the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility property in Warwick; and $1.8 million for the Cornwall Arms hotel on Main Street in Cornwall.

Orange County Partnership President Conor Eckert said the Consolidated Funding Application awards “are a major win for Orange County and the Hudson Valley, driving job creation, housing, and infrastructure improvements while fueling growth in film, tourism, and the creative economy.”

He said, “Strategic investments like these strengthen communities, attract new opportunities, and position Orange County for long-term economic success. Building on the momentum from a $25 million FAST NY investment in Maybrook, Orange County is harnessing dynamic momentum to help shape the region’s future.”
