HOPEWELL JUNCTION – This year, John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction raised $6,000 for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital by having their teachers take part in No-Shave-November to grow their best mustaches for a competition in cooperation with Mustaches For Kids, coordinated by high school Principal David Kedzielawa and teacher Timothy Kermani.

In the Cut barbershop donated their time to give the teaching staff their new looks for the contest, and students could donate $1 per vote so they could support their favorite teachers’ moustache style, eventually raising the funds for the hospital in Valhalla.

The Mustaches for Kids Orange County chapter was founded in 2018 by Cary Facer and has already raised more than $650,000 for local kids and families, and has chapters all around the country, such as in Omaha, Richmond, Long Island, Nashville, and Wilmington.

The organization as a whole began in 1999 and has raised over $16 million for children’s charities. The rules are simple: each chapter begins the month clean-shaven and grows their mustaches over 30 days. Each chapter gets pledges or donations to grow a mustache for one month, and in the end, all the money raised during this fundraiser is donated to local children’s charities selected by the individual chapters.
