A judge sentenced convicted wife-killer Brian Walshe to life without parole on top of the maximum sentences for lying to police and mishandling a body to be served consecutively, in court Thursday morning.

Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Diane Freniere handed down the harshest sentence possible after reading through witness impact statements from friends and family of Brian Walshe’s wife and victim Ana Walshe and hearing directly from Ana’s sister in court.

Aleksandra Dimitrijevic said she was speaking for herself and Ana’s mother when she described how Ana’s murder “left us with an unbearable emptiness.”

Ana “knew me like no one ever will,” Dimitrijevic said in court, explaining that she often wakes up “hoping this is all a terrible dream.”

Ana’s mother has suffered from severe depression in the wake of her daughter’s death and her children will grow up “without their mother’s hand to hold,” her sister said.

9:53 a.m. Judge Diane Freniere has sentenced Brian Walshe to life without parole and the maximum sentences for lying to police and improperly disposing of a body, to be served consecutively. She spoke of the “the life of trauma you inflicted on your own children,” and described his behavior as barbaric from the bench.

9:42 a.m. The defense is saying that the consecutive sentences are “inhumane.”

9:36 a.m. The prosecution is saying that Ana’s body was likely in the home for 24 hours before he started to dispose of it. “The same home his children are in,” said Assistant DA Greg Connor.

9:32 a.m. Prosecutors are asking for a life sentence with no possibility of parole, and consecutive sentences for his other convicted crimes.

9:30 a.m. “No sentence can bring her back,” Ana Walshe’s sister says, but she asks the court to please follow the Commonwealth’s recommendation.
