WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Monday signed the county’s 2026 budget of $2.5 billion into law.

The spending plan is in line with the tax cap, cuts almost all county department budgets by eight percent including the county executive’s – and eliminates 180 positions, cutting the county workforce by almost five percent while avoiding layoffs.

“The $2.5 billion budget was shaped by one of the most challenging financial climates we have faced in years,” he said. “The difficulties from 2025 will carry in 2026 and likely beyond and this budget reflects the hard necessary choices before us. This budget is a direct response to the Trump turmoil coming out of Washington.”

County Board of Legislators Chairman Vedat Gashi said local governments “are operating in a moment of unprecedently instability by the Trump Administration.”

He said the county board of legislators “has done everything possible to protect essential services, provide for our most vulnerable neighbors, and keep Westchester on stable financial footing.”
