PUTNAM VALLEY – It began in 1987 when 11-year-old Shawn Keeler began decorating his Putnam Valley home for the holidays.
Now 38 years later, the Keeler light display along Luigi Lane has grown to become one of the most colorful and amazing Christmas exhibits in the entire Hudson Valley, containing more than 25,000 lights and a 15-foot-tall inflatable Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
With the flip of a switch, Keeler’s exhibition came to life to the “oohs” and “ahhs” of dozens of residents who came from near and far.
The lighting has become a community endeavor, with members of the Putnam Valley Fire Department providing traffic control while neighboring agencies offering shuttle bus service.
Keeler, who serves as Putnam Valley Highway superintendent, and was a former assistant chief of the Putnam Valley Fire Department, currently acting as a battalion leader for the Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services, has now begun raising money for charity through his holiday extravaganza.
