WESTMINSTER — Calling all nature enthusiasts. You are invited to “Incredible Earthworms!” — a hands-on program for children ages 2 and up at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Forbush Memorial Library, 118 Main St.

Hosted by Hands on Nature, this interactive program explores the fascinating world of earthworms and their vital role in the environment.

Participants will learn about earthworm anatomy, their underground adaptions, and how they transform living and dead material into nutrient-rich soil.

Children will get to observe live earthworms with magnifiers and create their own model worm to take home.

Hands on Nature, founded and directed by Heather Simpson, is an educational, outdoor nature program available to students from preschool to high school, located in Berlin.

Simpson has completed naturalist training through the Wilderness Awareness School in Washington. Her previous education includes a BA in Sociology from Skidmore College (where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa) and a Master’s degree in Peace Studies from the University of Lancaster in England.

She also is certified as a Lead Teacher by the Department of Early Education and Care.

“We have been providing outdoor programming since we first began in 2007,” said Simpson. “Our mission is to connect children to the natural world through educational hands-on experiences.”
