GROTON — The Groton Public Library welcomes the community to a festive virtual cooking program – with a healthy twist.

Christine Van Bloem will present “Healthier Holidays with Empty Nest Kitchen” from 7 until 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, via Zoom.

“I am excited to demonstrate to you how to create delicious holiday dishes with a Mediterranean flair — flavorful, festive, and lighter on your waistline,” said Bloem.

Get ready for a festive and flavorful cooking class!

Participants will create a crisp Salad with Pears & Maple Vinaigrette, a lighter take on the classic Seven Fishes tradition with Shrimp & White Beans, and finish with a sweet treat – Peppermint Bark Dip.”

A seasoned cooking instructor, Van Bloem found new purpose in the kitchen after a heart attack in 2020, and the closure of her brick-and-mortar cooking school.

Now she focuses on healthier adaptations of classic recipes — using butter and cream sparingly — without sacrificing taste.

Bloem has also trained in culinary nutrition through The American College of Culinary Medicine and has researched the Mediterranean diet and menopause for her capstone program.

“I am so excited to be cooking, writing, and helping people live a better life,” said Van Bloem. “If you are looking to transform your life one bite at a time, this cooking program is the place to be.”

This event is made possible, in part, by the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust and presented in cooperation with area libraries.
