POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie firefighters assigned to Tower Ladder 2 delighted the crowd gathered at Waryas Park on Friday night to join Mayor Yvonne Flowers for the festival of lights. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived at the park around 6:20 p.m. to greet the children of all ages and a few elected officials who gathered to welcome the jolly old elf.
After meeting several children, Santa and the crowd counted down from 10 to one and the holiday tree came alive with colored lights. Other trees in the park have been decorated by Poughkeepsie DPW workers who strung white lights on them, creating a festive environment.
Once the centerpiece tree was lit, everyone turned their attention to the north sky as fireworks exploded overhead.
