Thanksgiving is over, and Christmas is here in three weeks — so much to do and so little time. But that doesn’t mean we forget the time-honored traditions that we love to do each year — and for your Stages scribe it means the annual holiday chat with maestro Keith Lockhart, sharing seasonal greetings and news of Holiday Pops run-outs to Worcester’s Hanover Theatre on Friday, Dec. 5, and Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 14.
“We have audience members at our Symphony Hall holiday concerts from Worcester and Lowell, but we love the runouts. There’s a definite family feel at those concerts and that’s why we keep coming back,” Lockhart said Tuesday morning.
Capturing the magic of the Christmas season and the winter charms of New England, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will perform holiday classics, the traditional Pops’ sing-along of carols and new arrangements of seasonal favorites, including “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.
“It’s the ultimate story of a miser’s redemption, and my favorite Christmas story after that of the original first Christmas,” said Lockhart.
They are joined by the Metropolitan Chorale, known as one of metro Boston’s premier choral ensembles. Santa Claus himself will make a guest appearance during the concert’s finale.
… All are invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with family, friends and merry music with the Holiday Pops this December. Performing festive favorites from cultural traditions around the world, the Pops and Lockhart promise to get you in the holiday spirit quicker than you can sing “fa la la la.”
At Hanover, tickets range from $94 to $164 depending on seat location. Save on handling fees in person at The Hanover Theatre box office. Contact the box office at 877-571-7469 for more information.
