Rowers Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache won gold medals in the men's double sculls on Thursday after a race they led for most of the race.

They brought Romania's first ever Olympic medal in the men's double rowing with a time of 6 min 12 sec 58/100.

The Netherlands came second with silver medals, with Melvin Twellaar, Stef Broenink, in 6 min 13 sec 92/100, and third place went to the Irish crew - Daire Lynch, Philip Doyle - in 6 min 15 sec 17/100.

Rowers Ancuța Bodnar and Simona Radiș came second in the women's double sculls on Thursday in 6 min 50 sec 69/100.

Olympic champions in Tokyo, the Romanians led the 1,000-meter race, but were beaten at the end by New Zealand's Brooke Francis, Lucy Spoors, just 24/100 (6:50.45).

The British athletes - Mathilda Hodgkins Byrner, Rebecca Wilde - won the bronze medal with a time of 6 min 53 sec 22/100.

Bodnar and Radiș hold the best Olympic time in the event (6:41.03), recorded in Tokyo.
