In this video we explain how the Shark Aircraft's tandem cockpit configuration directly improves performance, visibility, and efficiency. A narrower fuselage creates significantly less aerodynamic drag. Less drag means higher cruise speeds, stronger climb performance, and lower fuel consumption without the need for a larger, heavier engine.
This aerodynamic efficiency translates directly into what matters most to pilots: range and performance. You fly further on the same fuel while maintaining exceptional speed. And here is the number that surprises many pilots: A 126 hp Shark can fly faster than many 160 hp side-by-side aircraft. For the engineering team at Shark Aero, tandem is not simply a design choice. It is defined by its aerodynamic advantage.
But tandem design goes beyond pure performance. With both pilots seated on the centerline, forward visibility dramatically improves, increasing situational awareness and giving both the pilot and passenger a clearer view of the horizon and surrounding airspace. And the Shark’s tandem cockpit doesn’t just look like something from a fighter jet. It feels like one. It’s the closest thing to a jet fighter experience in this category.
More speed. More efficiency. More visibility. More fun. Tandem has the advantage.

Take a look at this gorgeous aircraft. Here, beauty runs deep. And if you look at the Shark,
there's one design decision which stands out from all other aircraft in class,
and it makes a huge difference to the performance. Tandem configuration. But you don't need to do
the science to understand that the tandem configuration gives you better performance,
better handling, makes the aircraft more comfortable, more efficient, and faster
given the same amount of power. Hi, my name is Andrew Mills, and in this video, I'm going to
tell you five reasons why tandem design is the standout feature that makes Shark better than
other aircraft in class. The Shark is built around a tandem cockpit, and that one decision shapes
everything. The feel, the performance, the efficiency, the comfort, the economy. So let's
start with the science. A tandem cockpit means you can have a much narrower fuselage.
This, in turn, dramatically reduces drag. Less drag means that the aircraft is faster,
can climb better, is far more efficient, and you can even have a lighter engine.
People are surprised to hear that the 126 horsepower Turbo Shark outperforms aircraft
with 160 horsepower, all because of the reduced drag. That's the tandem advantage.
You're not fighting the air, you're slicing your way through it.
The engineering teams behind side-by-side cockpits know that they need to reduce drag
as much as possible. To do that, they'll make the cockpit as narrow as practical.
The space can start to feel crowded, elbows competing with one another. In the Shark,
everybody's got their own space. The ergonomically designed seats, the integrated armrests,
and the HOTAS side stick means that the controls are where your hands naturally fall.
All this makes a huge difference on long-distance flights.
Another significant advantage of the tandem configuration is the field of view for the
passenger and for the pilot. Sitting ahead of the wing, you can see better in front of you,
both to the left and the right. The wraparound bubble canopy, you have a fantastic field of view
all the way around you. This isn't just a sightseeing thing, this makes a significant
impact on safety and see and avoid capabilities. Next, you don't have a big instrument panel
stretching left and right that obstructs what's happening on the other side of the aircraft from
you. Your passenger's head's not in the way either. Tandem configuration really changes
the way you feel about flying and the way you experience the world around you.
There's something else that's hard to quantify, but every Shark pilot talks about it. The moment
you sit down, strap in and wrap your hand around the side stick, there's an unmistakable feeling
that you don't get anywhere else in light aviation. The tandem configuration, the bubble canopy,
the HOTAS controls, they all combine to give you the unmistakable feeling of flying a jet fighter.
It's the physical reality of how this aircraft was designed
and for many pilots that's exactly the reason why they chose the Shark.
In aircraft design, it's often said if it looks right, it flies right and the design decisions
that went into the Shark gives us a high performance aircraft with fantastic handling
characteristics. The Shark's tandem configuration, the sleek fuselage, the clean lines, the balanced
profile. It's no surprise that the chief designer of the Shark is an engineer and an artist,
balancing form with function to produce an engineering masterpiece. So what does the
Shark bring to you? There's speed and agility, there's a fantastic field of view, there's comfort
for long-range flights and there's the jet fighter feel. All this with a design that turns heads
on the ground and in the air. If you want to find out more, go to shark.aero and book yourself a
