Who Holds the Record for the Most NBA Championships?
Oct 15, 2026
The new NBA season is upon us,
and with it comes an opportunity for teams to compete for the Larry
O'Brien Trophy. Some teams have made a habit of winning.
Here is a list of teams with the most
championships in NBA history.
The Boston Celtics won 11 titles in 13 years from 1957 to 1969
and secured their record 18th NBA championship in 2024,
ending a 16-year title drought
in the process. The Los Angeles Lakers have
won 17 championships in their history,
the first of which came in 1949 as the Minneapolis Lakers
and the most recent coming in 2020.
Four championships in eight years from 2015
to 2022 propelled the Golden State Warriors to third
on the list with seven championships.
The Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, won all six of their
titles in an eight-year period during the 1990s.
The San Antonio Spurs won their first title in
1999 before adding four more since every championship came under
the tenure of Gregg
Popovich. The Miami Heat, the Detroit Pistons,
Philadelphia 76ers, and the New York Knicks
have all amassed three titles each.
