Hello everyone. My name is Thao Linh and today I will talk about should and shall.
This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Lucia and I'm Caleb.
And today we are going to talk about two words may seem similar but have slightly different meaning.
Should and Shall
Okay, which one shall we talk about first? I think we should start with shall.
Should. Well, then that should be easy.
Should express certainty or possibility.
They should be here soon. It should be sunny tomorrow.
We also use should to give advice or an opinion.
I think you should wear the red dress. You look tired. You should get more sleep.
How about shall?
Shall expresses a higher level of obligation.
It really indicates promise.
World leaders recently signed a global settlement agreement.
Important articles of the agreement contain the word shall instead of should.
Developed countries' parties shall continue taking the lead by understanding agreements
while abolishing emissions resistance targets.
Shall has been changed to should before the deal was signed.
That wasn't too difficult.
Now, Caleb, is there anything else we should be talking about?
Nope, but we shall keep telling you more about grammar in our next episode.
And that's Everyday English.
Thank you for hearing me read should and shall.
Goodbye everyone and see you in the next lesson.
