Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe reviewer strongly dislikes the movie *Verity*, describing it as a boring and predictable attempt at an erotic thriller. Despite a strong cast, the film suffers from a convoluted plot, poor editing, and a nonsensical ending, ultimately failing to deliver the tension or excitement promised by its premise.
As a mercy, I'm going to make this video as short as humanly possible.
Let's do it.
Severity might very well signal the return of the erotic thriller.
Only thing it's not erotic enough or thriller enough to be an erotic thriller.
So let's talk about this case of boredom.
It starts Anne Hathaway is a very successful writer of a successful book
series. Dakota Johnson plays a not so successful writer,
but her writing style is supposedly very similar to Anne Hathaway's character
style. Enter Josh Hartnett,
who plays the husband of Anne Hathaway's character who recruits this other
writer to finish his wife's work. Because plot twist,
Anne Hathaway's character was in an accident. She's become catatonic.
She can't complete the series. I know what you're thinking.
The trailer promised you chills and thrills. A lot of, is she catatonic?
Is she not? Is she up walking around? What's going on?
Is Dakota Johnson's character hallucinating those things?
Out of here with that slightly more intriguing premise that is in this movie.
Would it be more interesting if it was pulled to the forefront? No.
What we have is this exhilarating thriller in which this ghost writer is
reading this other author's biography.
All the while this budding romance among the husband and this new writer girl,
this will they, won't they situation starts arising.
In every movie you think to yourself,
what was the optimum moment I could have left that movie theater to go take a
piss? The answer here is whenever you feel like it.
I don't feel like I'm burying the lead here,
but in case the point didn't come across, this movie was just boring.
The acting was fine in the movie. I mean, I love seeing Josh Hartnett back.
We love the Josh Hartnett resurgence Dakota. Dakota Johnson is one of those
actors. I always want to like her. Then she's in these movies in which it's like,
yeah, she's just plays a boring person. It's even written into the script.
The husband was like, are you having a good time tonight? She's like, Oh no,
that's just my face. I have resting board face, but this really is amazing.
Best acting in the film by far is Anne Hathaway as catatonic Anne Hathaway.
The movie had weird overlap fades and edits.
It had nudity and sex scenes that were supposed to come across as, Hey,
this is spicy. Bringing the erotic thriller back. Great.
Maybe this movie shows why that genre died is based off of a book that Amazon
tells me a lot of people love. YouTube tells me a lot of people hate.
So I don't know, honestly, I'm not saying it wasn't this.
Thus the movie is bad,
but I couldn't help but think to myself if you simplified the premise because
the whole thing gets so overly convoluted.
If you had a more simplified plot of the pressures of this unqualified writer
trying to live up to this hero author of hers,
it was like black Swan with writing would have been far more interesting.
They're not going for that. I get it. Instead it's, Oh,
the romance budding between these two. Will they, won't they?
Also I know where the ending's going and the movie's predictable.
It's either what you see is what you get in which there's no intrigue
whatsoever, or it's the only other option in which there's no intrigue whatsoever.
This domestic thriller builds to a climax. Stop. Comes to a head. Nope.
Brings us to the third act. Okay. That works. That's so ridiculous.
You realize this whole thing could have been avoided with better communication.
Yeah. The more I think about it, the end of this movie makes no sense.
It's plot twist for the sake of plot twist in spite of logic and reason and all
the wrong ways, which I guess wouldn't be enough to ruin it.
We've all had our fair share of movies that are like, yeah,
it was enjoyable up until the end. This isn't that this was, well,
the ending sucked and getting there sucked.
Maybe it's trying to bore the audience so much.
They're too tired to give an eye roll in the end. Yeah, this is not my thing.
This movie was made for anyone feeling the entertainment,
true crime power vacuum due to the fact that the Lindsay Clancy trials now come
to an end until the sequel. These days it's all about the trial.
I was bored to tears. I was checking my watch. One thing I knew for sure.
Verity is dog ----. All right. So Verity, have you seen it?
What did you think about it? Or what's your favorite domestic thriller?
Is it different from the book or is the book this boring too? I gotta know.
