Ani Nina Hinducha, 28 years old, was born in Sweden.
Her family comes from India and lives in Uganda.
But they came to Sweden as refugees in the 1970s.
Ani is the daughter of Mr. Vidno and Mrs. Nilam.
She has a sister named Ami and a brother named Anish.
After coming to Sweden, Ani's father opened a company and started a business.
Ani is a gentle person who lives with love and is devoted to her family.
After graduating from college, Ani moved to Stockholm to work for the mobile phone company Ericsson.
Ani is a modern woman who believes in traditional values.
She is young and always hopes to find a man she loves to start a family with.
Ani often flies to London to go on business trips.
Here she met Srin Dewani, 30 years old.
Srin seems to be a perfect man that any girl would want to marry.
He is polite, gentle, born into a rich family, owns many nursing homes in Bristol.
Srin runs the family's business and became a millionaire before the age of 30.
Ani met Srin through a friend who works as a tailor.
The two of them get along very well because they have quite similar backgrounds.
Srin's family also comes from India and came to the UK as refugees.
Ani likes Srin's humor and feels protected when she is with him.
The two of them accept love from afar, and fights begin.
In the end, they make up and Ani decides to leave her job in Stockholm
and move to London so that the two of them can be closer.
Ani's parents also fly to London to meet Srin's family.
At first, they were a bit surprised by Srin's family's wealth.
But gradually, they felt that Srin's family welcomed them very warmly and humorously,
so they felt more comfortable and loved Srin more.
Ani said that Srin did not believe in the relationship before marriage,
so even though they loved each other for a long time, the two of them were still in love.
After the two families met, Srin and Ani planned to hold a wedding in Mumbai in October 2010.
They invited hundreds of guests to the wedding.
The wedding lasted three days and three nights.
After the wedding, Srin and Ani flew to South Africa for a three-week honeymoon.
Ani didn't know where she was going until they got to the airport.
Everything was planned and arranged by Srin.
The two of them got off at Cape Town Airport on November 12, 2010.
Instead of using the hotel's pickup service,
Srin chose to catch a local taxi with a lower price.
A taxi driver named Zola Thongle
got in the car and drove the couple to a luxury hotel on the beach 20 minutes away.
After arriving, Srin told Thongle to come back to pick them up the next evening
to take them to a restaurant and visit the city.
The next day, Srin and Ani seemed to have a great honeymoon.
They drank together, took pictures, and went for a walk.
The two looked very happy.
As promised, Thongle came to pick up Srin and Ani at about 7.30pm
to take them to Surfside Restaurant.
At about 10.30pm, Thongle came to pick them up at the restaurant.
Srin said that Ani really wanted to see the nightlife in South Africa,
so he asked Thongle to take them for a tour.
The three of them drove into the town of Guguletu.
Guguletu is the area with the highest crime rate in the region.
From 2005 to 2010, more than 700 murders took place here.
The people living there didn't even dare to go out at night,
not to mention the tourists.
At about 10.45pm, Thongle stopped at a crossroad.
Suddenly, there were two men holding guns, knocking on the window and running into the car.
The two robbers forced Thongle to get out of the car and run away.
They took Ani's phone, watch, and all her jewelry.
Ani and Srin were terrified,
but the robbers said that they just wanted to rob, not kill anyone.
They would let the two go, but not let them go together.
After a while, after emptying the money, watch, and Srin's phone,
the robbers dropped Srin off, then let the car go,
with Ani still in the car.
Srin panicked, looking for someone to call the police,
because his phone was taken by the robbers.
After a long time,
a passerby stopped and helped Srin call the police.
At about 1am, Ani's parents in Thuy Dien received a call from Srin.
There was no good call until 1am.
Ani's father hurriedly picked up the phone.
At the other end of the line, Srin was panicking, crying, telling the story.
He kept apologizing for not being able to protect Ani.
Ani's parents seemed to be silent when they heard the news.
Vinod immediately found the earliest flight to South Africa.
Meanwhile, the police had mobilized all forces to search for the stolen car,
but only at 8am the next day did they find it.
The car was left on an empty road.
In the back seat was Ani Dewani's body.
She was shot in the neck.
The bullet was still stuck in her chair.
There were many bruises on Ani's body,
showing that she tried to fight for her life.
Her watch, wristwatch, phone, and purse were all stolen.
The lost property worth about $7,000.
But the strange thing is that both Ani's wedding ring and engagement ring,
worth tens of thousands of dollars, were left in the car.
The forensic test results later showed no signs of sexual assault.
The police immediately realized that this robbery had many suspicious points.
First, Tongal is a local.
He must have known how dangerous that area was.
No tourists set foot in that area in the morning,
not to mention 10pm at night.
There are many safer areas near Srin and Ani's hotel.
Why did he have to take them to such a poor,
remote, and overcrowded area?
Second, why did the robbers let Tongal and Srin get out of the car
without a scratch, while keeping Ani alive and killing her?
Clearly, there's something fishy here.
On November 17, Srin and Ani's father
brought her body back to England.
The case soon attracted the attention of the public and abroad.
At first, the investigation went very smoothly.
The fingerprints in the car led them to the name Soli Mangani,
a criminal who went to prison in the area.
The police immediately issued an arrest warrant for Soli and his brother.
Under the cover, they found a phone.
Soli said it was Tongal's phone, the taxi driver.
Soli cooperated with the police and immediately admitted everything.
He admitted to being involved in the robbery,
along with another criminal named Wabe.
Wabe was arrested at 1am on Thursday, November 18.
Wabe also quickly confessed.
Wabe said he and Soli were hired by Monde Bolombo,
a hotel staff in the area.
At first, Monde denied any involvement,
but only after a few hours of interrogation,
Monde admitted everything.
He said that Tongal was hired by him to kill her,
and that the entire robbery was a set-up by Srin and Ani.
From the beginning, Tongal has always been an innocent victim
of a random robbery,
but it's clear that things are much more complicated.
After being arrested, as well as three previous accomplices,
Tongal immediately confessed.
He said that Srin, Ani's husband,
was the one who committed all the crimes
to kill his newly-wedded wife.
After Tongal brought the couple to the hotel,
Srin returned to talk to him.
The security camera showed that Srin had returned to the taxi
and talked to Tongal for about 10 minutes.
Tongal said that Srin offered to pay 15,000 rand,
which is about more than 1,000 pounds in cash.
Tongal told Srin that he wasn't a killer,
but he knew someone who could do this.
After talking to Srin, Tongal went to the hotel where Monde worked.
Here, Monde contacted WABE.
The police checked the hotel's phone history
and confirmed that Monde had called Tongal and WABE
several times before the case happened.
A security camera with a voice recording
recorded a conversation,
in which Monde said that
what we discussed had to be done today.
Please call Monde.
Tongal also said that he met Srin
in the afternoon of the day the case happened
to wait for Srin to exchange money.
The security camera also confirmed this.
After Tongal brought Srin and Annie to the restaurant for dinner,
Srin asked him if everything was ready.
The hotel's security camera showed
that one day after Annie was murdered,
Srin met Tongal in the hotel lobby.
In the video, there was a picture of a cleaning staff.
Srin asked the staff to leave
so they could talk to each other.
In another video,
Srin was seen in the hotel
holding a white envelope in his hand.
Tongal followed Srin to another room,
then left holding the envelope in his hand.
The police believed that
this was the envelope to pay the rest of the money for the robbery.
Srin said it was just Tongal's driver's money.
However, many people asked
why a driver who let a passenger be robbed and murdered
had the nerve to take the taxi money
from a husband whose wife had just passed away.
A month after the case happened,
Tongal was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Wabe was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Annie's killer was identified as Solly.
Solly's lawyer said that
Solly was forced to commit a crime
and the police tortured him to convict him.
However, the police denied this accusation.
Solly was sentenced to life imprisonment
while suffering from cerebral palsy.
He died in October 2014.
Meanwhile, Monday, a hotel staff,
was acquitted for cooperating with the police
and agreeing to testify against Srin.
After a long legal battle,
on April 7, 2014,
Srin Dewani was deported
from the UK to South Africa.
After arriving there, he was arrested
and charged with murdering his wife.
Srin denied all charges.
On November 24, 2014,
Srin was charged
because the judge in South Africa said
they did not have enough evidence to convict him.
Annie's family suffered a lot
because of her daughter's death
and the dark secrets related to her death.
They had no reason to suspect Srin.
Srin and Annie seemed to have a perfect relationship
and Srin was not benefited
from killing Annie.
But everything changed when a source said
that Srin was actually gay.
Srin paid money for a male dentist
and was a regular customer of Leopold Laser,
a gay dentist.
Srin told Laser that
he accepted Annie's wedding
just to make his parents happy.
He didn't want to live with Annie
but he couldn't tell his family
that he was LGBT.
So he came up with a way
to get rid of Annie.
After Laser made public
about his relationship with Srin,
he was under a lot of pressure
and in 2016, Laser committed suicide
and Laser's story was never confirmed.
Four years after Annie was killed,
Srin began a public relationship
with another man.
Srin admitted that he had a relationship with a man
but said he was a pervert.
Srin looked very happy
with his new boyfriend.
Meanwhile, Annie's parents said
they always had to live in misery
because they lost Annie forever.
To this day, the truth about Annie's death
is still a mystery
and Srin's innocence
is still controversial.
