Tony Allen Explains How He'd Lock Up Jalen Brunson & Ant Edwards
Sep 24, 2026
I got one more before we go because as you we talked about how you would stop SGA.
I gotta ask you, how would you stop Brunson? Because he got the foul going on. So how would
you stop Brunson? And after Brunson, I gotta ask you, how would you stop Ant-Man? Those my last
two. How would you stop Brunson? Honestly, I think when we use the word slow him down,
how would you slow him down? That's a bit much, but I gotta say if with Brunson, I want to see
what he's doing to his right hand. You know what I'm saying? I want to see him going to his weak
hand more. I see a lot of, I mean his left hand. I want him going to his strong hand more. You
feel what I'm saying? And these guys, I say that because they get to their spots and create space.
Yes. So you gotta be willing to fight these guys' bumps, be physical, and you fighting the ref too.
Yes. But you really ain't fighting the ref if you go to the ref and holler at him.
But other than that, he initiates all the contact. These guards, you name it,
initiates all the contact. And like I said, similar to Shane, once they get to that mid-range
pulley, they pushing you to the point where they want just a little creative space. And if you can
manage to hold that push off and still be able to move your feet, because once you get pushed
off balance, you got to realize your feet slip. Ain't nobody getting pushed and being able to
still stay in one spot. You got to close the space back up and be able to contest.
And it ain't going to be two, three times where you do it. It might be four, five times where
you don't even matter to him. But the last 10, 12 times of those possessions of the game,
I'm pretty sure that shot ain't as effective as it was earlier.
He went on his ass.
And as far as Ed, I think he the one that probably got like, because it's like you can't,
if he east to west you, you know what I mean? He could pull up from 40 now, you know what I'm
saying? His range got extended. Then if you push him left, he take off, he might take off, go left
and you know, throw it on your head. And then if he go right, he just as strong as going to the
other way to dunk you the other way. You see what I'm saying? So it ain't really no weakness in
his game. He figured out that trap and start sending them two at him. He figured that out.
Yeah, he figured that out. He figured it out. Start coming up with huge assists. I like that,
but I don't know. He playing, he tough, bro. And I don't got no answer for that.
Listen, I've never been first team, never been 20th team. But I've watched a lot of basketball,
right? And the biggest thing you mentioned about all three of those guys, I mean, you're never
going to stop when you try to slow them down. Everything I've seen in playoff basketball,
when you're successful, the best players make them inefficient and keep them off the foul line.
Exactly.
Because you talked about both of them. Brunson lives at the foul line. Shea,
she's 12, 13 of them a game, right? And finds, so it's trying to make them inefficient. Like
they're going to, they're more than well, more than likely to walk away with 20 plus points.
Yeah. That's, that's, but like you said, you want those.
So what you want, what you want is a 40%, 38% from the field that night and six free throws.
That last, that last two, three minutes of the game.
But with yes, but with that being said, that's hard.
You got to get them there. It ain't going to be easy to take them.
No doubt.
You ain't gonna be easy to take them there. But a point that you made, that's great.
And I think a lot of people don't recognize about offensive players. And you made this point is
a lot of people think when you're a left-handed basketball player, as a big, you want to come
up and set the screen on their side so they can go to the left immediately. I always used to set
the screen on D-Wade left hand. I'm serious. I always just set the screen on D-Wade right hand.
Because he's going to go left. So I know I'm going to send him to his right,
just so he can cross over, go left and get that step back and get to his spot with his left hand.
So a lot of times I would set it on his strong hand,
just because I know he's going back left to get to that step back.
Yeah.
When you set that side, when you set that on Brunson hand, I love what you said,
because a lot of times if you set it on, if you set it on the left-hand side,
he's going to cross over and get to that right, just so he can get to that step back.
So send him to his left and try to keep him over there.
Because once you get in his pocket, you've got too much.
And I ain't worried about you finishing over none of the bigs.
I know it's easier said than done. We're just going over strategies here, but I love that.
That's what set them up to get into that little position where they want to bump and then fade.
So it's all about just really smelling this cologne early. Let's get in there and smell
this cologne early.
Yeah.
You got to know, as soon as you walk in, this man is on me.
Yeah.
That's another part of it, too, I believe.
You got to irritate the other guy.
No doubt, no doubt.
You get what I'm saying?
Get what I'm saying?
Two more fan questions.
Smell this cologne early is fantastic, brother.
305Dan, who was the hardest person to guard in the league when you played?
Well, we all know Kobe.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That go without saying, but as of...
He was all tough, man. I ain't going to lie. Everybody was tough, man. I faced every...
My job was to go...
Yeah, you had the number one option every year. I mean, every game.
The maxed out players. Whoever was maxed out at the guard spot, I had to...
Because if I had to pick, I'm going to have to go KD, bro.
And when I say KD, it's because it's like when they was running that pin down action.
And if I get caught late or if he catch it, whenever he catch it and he decides to pull,
the contest of the shot is like my...
Like when I reach my arm out there, it's like right here in his forearm.
And it's like I would foul him. I would get him to the line.
You know, that's the cardinal sin in basketball. You find a three-point shooter.
So it was hard.
And then he's 6'11", coming at you full speed with a pull-up.
It was a Hezzy pole.
How could you stop that? But then not only that,
when he come down at you full speed, he might slow it down.
Call for the pick, he rejects the pick, man.
Now when he come off, if you get hit by that pick, he might take off upstairs on you.
And that's the thing too, man. Like people want to talk about three-level scorers now.
There was no one better than him. His middie was fire.
Trey Ball was fire. At the rim, he was, man...
Last question.
What's your favorite defensive play in your career?
There's got to be one of them up there.
My favorite defensive play? Oh, that's huge.
I'm going to tell y'all one.
We were playing the Lakers 2010 final.
And you know, Paul Gasol, he was out there working.
He's out there working.
And I had saw the play.
He had got good position on Sheed in the post
and was about to, you know, get a clean layup.
And I came out of nowhere.
I blocked it with my left hand and my right hand.
On a real hybrid, extended the hell out of my leg.
But it was contract-y, I had to keep playing.
I had to keep playing.
It was contract-y.
When he got it with two.
Man, listen, man, no extensions.
I was like, yo, this might be the end, right?
I got to make this one work.
But yeah, that was meaningful basketball.
And it was the finals. That was a big block.
Here is a dirty little secret
that insurance industry may want to keep under wraps.
Insurance companies profit by holding onto your money
for as long as possible.
So after an accident, they might do whatever they can
to delay or deny your claim.
This way, they can keep those profits growing.
Morgan & Morgan fights hard against these corporations
to fight to make sure you get every dollar you deserve.
When in court, the insurance companies want juries
to think that at-fault driver
is the one paying the verdict amount.
Meanwhile, it's really the insurance companies
who are covering the cost.
When Morgan & Morgan takes on a case,
they're almost always going after the big insurance companies
and not the individuals at fault.
Morgan & Morgan fights hard for their clients
and these corporations know that.
A recent client in Pennsylvania just received $29 million.
That's $29 million.
Insurer's best offer was $500,000.
Another recent client in Florida received $20 million.
Last offer, zero.
There's a reason why Morgan & Morgan
is America's largest injury firm.
Hiring the wrong firm can be disastrous.
Hiring the right firm could substantially
increase your settlement.
With Morgan & Morgan, it's easy to get started
and their fee is free unless they win.
