What? You're getting your picture taken
What's his name? Mango
What do you shoot?
I started out when I was 20. I'm 76, so...
Wow, you don't look 76.
I know.
My mother didn't look 100.
What did you end up shooting?
Well, I started as a rock and roll photographer.
Rock and roll photographer?
So much.
Of course, dude.
I appreciate you, dude.
It was so nice meeting you.
Yeah, I'll send you guys the footage.
Be safe, bro.
Yeah, we'll do it.
It was great to watch you today.
Thank you so much. Yeah, what was the best part about traveling
as a photographer? Yeah, every
part of it, like all of it. Our band was 45 people, three kids, a dog
and a five person film crew
oh my god, around the United States
on a private plane. We had 54 shows in 48 cities, all sold out
What would you tell a photographer
who's like starting off? Love it. If you don't love it and
you don't feel it don't do it
and don't try to be like anybody else. Everybody has their own genius
and their own brilliance. I love it. Yeah, I can't stay away
from it, like I just, I mean today I was
like there's a story out there today, I gotta go capture it, yeah
and it was them. Yeah, yeah, that's
and then now, like I love your story too. Do you look forward
to anything else? Yes, what I'm doing these
days is I'm photographing myself naked with the food
that I grow, it's like in like your garden
actually on my kitchen table in my garden
that is so interesting oh my god I love to eat I don't
want to diet I dieted most of my life to try to be thin
because that's what that's what the
patriarchy would like for us to do is be small
and thin and whatever and I have an aging body
and we're supposed to be uglier
and uglier as women as our bodies age so I'm taking pictures
of food with my body.
What would you tell someone who's struggling with eating?
We try to push down
our pain because we don't know how to access our tears very well
and how to access our grief
and all of that so sometimes I would overeat to to feel
so poorly that I'd eventually cry but it
took the feeling physically over full to make myself cry
and face that I'm in pain we need
to be heard we need to be told
that it's just absolutely incredible for you to feel and cry
it just do it keep feeling keep crying yeah I
love crying sometimes it takes such a long time
like I'll be sad about something and then I'll watch a movie
but I'm not crying about the movie
I'm crying about what I'm sad about
but they had to take the movie to make me cry well yeah
that's very much similar
to the overeating situation you're trying to fit into a a model
of beauty that is fed to us look
at our president's wife she feeds us a model of beauty
that makes people want to do botox
and you know change their hair color and be skinny and and
and wears specific kinds of makeup and clothing
to try to fit into the picture of the perfect woman,
her hair perfect, all this perfect, and it's bullshit.
Without all of that, we are just who we are.
That's just a mask.
You know,
the more
natural
a person
can be.
There's something about the way that the sky turned red
We're turnin' off the lights on your sister's bed
Wishin' on the clouds on an evening stroll
Turnin' about a hurtin' that a heart can't hold
There's a small tattoo curlin' up
your spine
Yes, but when I caught
your head on my heart
where the bluebirds sing
