AI GeneratedThe host of \"Grizzlies Dad\" discusses a recent ESPN report listing the Memphis Grizzlies as a team likely to make moves before the trade deadline. He strongly argues against trading away current assets, suggesting that rushing into trades would jeopardize the team's future and disrupt the development of their young core.
This could end up destroying the Memphis Grizzlies.
They do not need to be in any rush to try and make something happen,
but some believe the Grizzlies will be in the market to make some moves before the trade deadline, and to what that is
could be anyone's guess, but this would hilariously destroy the Memphis Grizzlies before even getting the ground running. Wouldn't that be a disaster?
I think it would be.
What's going on everybody? Jerry Altorre, your host for another episode of Grizzlies Dad, just bringing you all the latest news and updates on everything
Grizzlies related. Now, I know
that if you're not in the market to
do anything and try and have fun with the Memphis Grizzlies this year, I understand, but look
there's Cam Boozer to think about, there's Cedric Howard, there's Zach Eaddy, and a lot of the other young guys, even Kareem Lopez.
I'm so excited to see what he can do.
But if you wanted to make things just a little bit more interesting this season,
this video is
sponsored by
Kalshi. On Kalshi, you're trading directly against other users, not the house, like traditional sports books.
You're buying yes-or-no contracts on the outcome of events across sports, politics, or even the weather. So, for example,
we have this. So, 30-plus wins for the Memphis Grizzlies, 30-plus total wins, put in $25 and
win $44.05. If that happens, all new users get $25 when they trade
$25, and you want to use that promo code
DigestMBA. I'll put it back on the screen for you. That code, DigestMBA, will have the link in the description below, as well as a pinned
comment in the comment section down below for this video. And, once again,
thank you to the folks at Kalshi for sponsoring this video.
So, look, I'm all for the Grizzlies doing anything to make things work for them.
I'm not
against what they're doing at all right now. I'm not against how they look, and
everybody is on this team for a reason. And, just to recap, hey, look,
I mean, they brought in guys like Isaiah Stewart to be
the true grit-and-grind guy for the Memphis Grizzlies, something we have not seen in a little while, since
Dylan Brooks, you can say. Before that,
Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Tony Allen. Now, Tony Allen didn't really used to start things like Isaiah Stewart
would, but,
again, gritty defender, and
always has a place here, always has a welcome at home sign whenever he arrives in the building to watch a game. But,
look, I just think that this is a little bit too radical in my opinion.
Grizzlies ranked among the NBA's most likely trade teams. Now, this is according to an
ESPN list
that was made a few days ago. And
this goes, which team is likely to make a move before the trade deadline?
They give the Golden State Warriors
nine points. Now, I'm not sure what
metric they're using in terms of points. I don't really get that. But, either way, they have it
easy for you to
judge here based off of a list in
order. So, they give the Warriors as the most likely to make a move, the Pistons the second most likely,
Celtics and Rockets tied for third most likely, and then you've got the Nuggets, Grizzlies,
Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, and Toronto Raptors all tied at one point. So, I don't
really know
in terms of the metric how
much that stands.
But, the Grizzlies are on this list.
Now, there are nine teams on this list and the Grizzlies are on the most likely, at least. But, what
could that mean? I
mean, they could
trade players,
buy, sell players.
What could that possibly mean?
Because there are a lot of options that the Grizzlies could go here.
But, let's see what James Piercy says. So, he says the Grizzlies could be
sellers. Actually, I'll put that in a
full
screen here. At this moment, the Grizzlies are rebuilding. The most logical route for them is to
take is as sellers. Most likely, that means flipping veteran guard Ty Jerome. He's the
he's
likely the player on this team with the most trade value who doesn't fit the team's timeline.
Otherwise, wing Jeremy Grant is a strong candidate if someone is willing to take on his contract. A solid versatile wing
who could help the team win. So, I'm a little bit confused by that. So, we just mentioned Ty Jerome
is 29, doesn't fit the team's timeline.
But, right in the next sentence, you have an older guy called Jeremy Grant
who you say, well,
you don't complain about his age, but you're still saying he could be a good trade
piece for this team.
Well, in a way, I
would personally
disagree here because
one, you've only had Ty Jerome play, I
think it was about 10 to 15 games, something of that sort last season.
Then, you've had Jeremy Grant who
you know, he's played around that 58 to
70 game
around that range for the last three years, but
kind of dropped off a little bit in production and
some of the other guys from Portland got a lot of playing time. Kamara, especially Denny Advia,
really cut into his playing time there in Portland. But, I
think if you're looking at a
veteran piece who's been there, done that,
who's a great lengthy, lanky guy who's not afraid to drive inside and even hit from corner
deep. I mean, he is a deep range shooter, but
his real only
legit shot,
I'm being confident from deep, is in the corner. So, I mean, hey, take it out to the corner, find him, knock down a three.
He's really good for that.
Not a bad shooter from downtown, but you have Ty Jerome who's expected to be the starting point guard of this team.
You just don't want to go rushing things just yet.
Okay, and that's why I think that if they do rush things, that would realistically, you're gonna have to
excuse me, I got dogs in the background here,
you have a
realistic shot to build this team, this core group,
the 10 or 11 guys, for a long time. And now you're talking about
trading pieces away, or at least
buying, selling them. I mean, getting rid of them in some
capacity. I
think that would
just
hilariously destroy this team's future.
And I think we have to wait and see what this team does. And I'm not on the
fence at all about trading Jeremy Grant. I don't want that to happen.
First of all, because he was involved in the John Moran trade, and I feel like we deserve
ourselves to see what he can do
with this trade already
here, you know, and
nobody had to lose a pick. We didn't, we didn't lose any draft picks for that trade.
I didn't gain any, but I mean, look, you've got a
piece here that's been there, done that, and he was in the John Moran trade.
I don't want to trade him just yet, but also for Ty Jerome, who's 29, and
in the 24-25 season, coming off his best year, especially shooting the basketball,
it seems like he's increased his range every year since he started in the NBA,
and won a championship at Virginia back in the
2019 season called
the all-time turnaround
national championship.
At least that's what Jim Nantz said, and I completely agree. I mean, this guy has been a player. He has been a baller for years.
We deserve the chance to watch both of these guys, in my opinion, and
I don't think we should trade them at all. That would destroy the team's future.
Here's James Piercy
again, and he agrees.
Grizzlies should prioritize the future.
The Grizzlies could be better than expected.
Look at the other teams on this list. The Pistons, the Celtics, the Heat, the Nuggets, Rockets, all firmly in win-now mode.
They're mostly stacked with veterans. Only the Rockets and Pistons have the same two-timeline flexibility as
Memphis. The Warriors and Kings are in transition. They're likely sellers, although the Warriors could go either way.
The broader point is that only the Grizzlies are the rebuilding team out of this group.
Yeah, they are the most rebuilding, and
that's why they
should absolutely stay far, far away from the trade deadline. They've got so many young pieces.
I mean, I don't even know a proposal of what you could do.
I mean, it's silly at this point to think about why you would trade any of these guys, especially when you haven't seen
them play. You're not even gonna give any of these guys a full season anymore. We're just gonna keep going.
We're gonna keep trading guys and keep going younger and younger and younger, and the cycle is never gonna stop.
I mean, that's lunacy at that point.
So look, the Grizzlies have a
great base to start up with.
Let's not destroy anything by going and trading guys away.
Okay, so we should do that.
Here's the last question. Who should we trade at the deadline if you do believe there should be something happening?
Should be Jeremy Grant, Ty Jerome, another player, or none of the above?
I think you know what my answer is at this point.
