The Window Finally Fits! | Old Finca Restoration

The window is finally going into the wall!
After weeks of slowly rebuilding this old stone wall, we've finally reached the point where we can start fitting the new window. But getting a modern window into a traditional stone opening isn't quite as straightforward as it sounds.
In this episode of our old finca restoration, we work out exactly how the window needs to sit between the original almond lintels, build up the stonework underneath it and find a way to support and wedge the window into position.
We also have to modify one of the large stones because it is just too thick for the reclaimed handmade clay tiles we're planning to use as the window sill. Fortunately, we find a natural fracture line and manage to split the stone perfectly.
There's plenty of measuring, adjusting and repositioning as we make sure the window will actually fit, open and close properly, and leave enough room for the reclaimed tiles underneath.
Eventually, we get there.
The window is sitting in the opening, it's level in every direction, it opens and closes, and we've confirmed that the reclaimed tiles will fit underneath. It's not permanently fixed yet — that's the next job.
There's also a bit of preparation for the cooler weather, including cutting and stacking firewood before the rain arrives, plus a look at our off-grid generator, which is our backup power system. I'll be making a separate video showing how I service the generator.
This is part of our ongoing restoration of an old stone finca, rebuilding the house using traditional stonework, lime mortar and reclaimed materials wherever possible.
Next time, we'll finally get this window properly installed and start finishing the stonework around it.
Thanks so much for watching and for supporting the channel.
