The Penguins WASTED something special...
1 Video View·Oct 6, 2026
The Pittsburgh Penguins wasted something special as they had some key performances from some
young players that were for naught because they do lose this game 3-2 to the Winnipeg
Jets.
And in this video we're going to break down everything about these key performances, talk
about some takeaways that we can take into our next one, and so much more.
You should not want to miss this episode of Penguin's Digest before we dive into everything
here.
I just want to say around the world, we're over 3,000 subscribers here and if you're
new here, you want to stay up to date on everything around the Pittsburgh Penguins, we are home
for it here on YouTube.
And yes, again, we do lose another game this season and tonight it is against the Winnipeg
Jets, who I think are a tough opponent, they have a great team this year and unfortunately
a collapse in the third period makes us lose this game.
Two collapses in a row for this Penguins team, last time they did win it, this time they
do lose it to the Winnipeg Jets.
But it was for now, we got some good takeaways from this game, some key performances from
some young players that we really need to see going forward for this team to be successful
and maybe some not so key performances from some veterans that if we're involved tonight,
maybe we win this game.
So we're going to break it all down.
Let's get to it.
As we see here, Ben Kindle, he leads the Pittsburgh Penguins bright spots tonight as he had a
great game, right?
If we take a look at the game score, Declan Carlisle led the team in game score tonight.
He had a great game.
Obviously another young player in this league and playing his first season with the Pittsburgh
Penguins and then we have Ben Kindle obviously putting some great points up on the board
here tonight.
We're going to dive into that in just a bit, 1.73 game score for him.
Koivonen keeps up the great pace that he's been on to start the year with a 1.28 game
score.
Just having a really good start to the year that we really want to see from him after
getting that extension.
And then we just take a look at the bright spots here.
Obviously it was Ben Kindle, one goal, one assist for him in this game, which was great
to see.
And then Declan Carlisle, the defenseman getting involved with the goal and the assist as well,
where you know, Carlisle's goal was assisted by Ben Kindle, which was pretty cool to see
as well.
Pittsburgh's two goal scores, those were the two guys tonight that really showed up here
for this Pittsburgh Penguins team and a guy in Murashov who I think had a pretty solid
performance as well.
We're going to talk about him in just a bit, but if we look at like some of the supporting
forwards tonight, Henrik Slopp here at a 0.79, Lazat with a 0.72, Kuzmenko with a 0.58, Dewar
with a 0.30.
So it's great to see some of these, you know, middle to bottom six players have good games,
pick up for when they're big guys, don't have a good game.
Obviously Ben Kindle coming back from that injury, had a great game.
Just, you know, not this game, but the game previous, previous has a good game in tonight's
game as well.
So it's great to see him get back to form after having these injuries and it's great
to see these guys pick up for the guys like Crosby, Malkin, who may have had a lackluster
game in this one.
And maybe if they do have a good game, we do end up winning this one, but let's just
talk about it here.
It's Pittsburgh loses control in the third.
I mean, unfortunately that's what happens if we just took a look at the timeline of
this game.
Alex, I follow ties it one to one and then Adam Lowry puts Winnipeg up two to one.
And then we do end up tying it.
It was Declan Carlyle from Ben Kindle, but then Profeti scores the winner with a set
up from Morrissey on a one timer for three, four to three to two lead.
And ultimately that's what won them to gain the game.
Unfortunately, we do kind of have a little collapse again in this game, but you know,
we do tie the game and we think that we're back in it.
And unfortunately we don't keep that pressure going.
Profeti gets a nice shot off and they win the game at three to two, unfortunately.
And I wasn't, you know, a bad game for Miroshov in his debut in this season.
He had a 909 save percentage and he had 3.14 goals against 30 saves in this one.
I thought he looked pretty solid in the net.
He was an anchor back there, made some good saves, and I think he's definitely a good
goaltender for us going forward.
Did he look as good as she lost?
I'm not quite sure.
I, you know, I mean, we're pretty, I mean, closely removed from this game.
And I do think that she loves has some things that Miroshov does and Miroshov doesn't.
Miroshov has some things that she loves does.
So I think we're going to need to see a couple more starts before we start to have this debate
on who should have the crease full time.
But I thought Miroshov looked great tonight.
I don't really think that the loss was on him, in my opinion.
And obviously the goalies keep it close here with Clay Stevenson getting his first start
in Winnipeg.
He gets to win 3-2 with 29 saves for him as well.
So it was kind of a goaltending battle at points in this game.
Both goaltenders played really well.
And unfortunately for the, unfortunately for the Pets for Penguins, it does end in a loss
tonight.
But like I said, there's some good things to take away from this as well.
Looking at the game score, they do have Miroshov with a minus 0.3 game score in this, in this
one and Clay Stevenson with a positive 1.61.
So on the game score side, I didn't really think Miroshov had a good performance.
I thought he was solid, but you know, some, some, maybe they're seeing some advanced things
that we're not seeing, but I, you know, I just think he had a good game and you know,
it could have went either way in this one with obviously Winnipeg getting this win.
It could have went either way, but looking at this, the veteran forwards trail in game
score, unfortunately in tonight's game, like we alluded to, the veterans kind of, you know,
didn't show up tonight and it's kind of the reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins lost and
why this opportunity was spoiled.
We see Crosby, he's positive with a 0.02, Raquel with the 0.15, minus 0.15, Malkin with
a minus 1.25 and Novak with a minus 1.32 after having a great game against the Montreal Canadiens.
He takes a step back in this one, same with Raquel, even Malkin, I mean, Malkin's had
a great start to the year, so he's doing off night and unfortunately tonight was tonight
and it kind of leads to the loss because we have some great production through the
middle six.
When you're getting production through your middle six, you kind of want your big guys
to chip in for at least one as well, but unfortunately we didn't get to see that tonight.
And just looking here, the remaining forwards, Nick Robertson, minus 0.44, Chinnikov with
a minus 0.90, so nothing really outstanding from the rest of the forwards in this game.
We would like to see some more opportunities given to Nick Robertson, some more passes,
maybe getting through to him, trying to find him more in open ice when he's set up on his
spot as well to try to score some goals for this team.
Chinnikov had a couple of good start games to start this season.
Fortunately, he takes a step back in this one and hopefully we can start to right the
ship going forward for these guys.
Looking at the defense now, obviously Letang, 0.71 game score, Korczak, minus 0.09.
I like Korczak, I think he's played great during his time in Pittsburgh and of course
has a little bit of an off night tonight, but not too bad.
Letang still positive.
Trevor Van Rensyk TVR in the minus game score as well.
I do like Letang tonight.
I thought he really was good at quarterbacking this offense five on five.
You know, he does Chris Letang things.
He's one of the best puck movers we've seen in Pittsburgh maybe ever.
So it's great to see him have another good game here tonight.
One of the best performances by the veterans in this lineup for sure.
And if we just take a look at Eric Carlson at a minus 0.35, Sam Gerrard with a minus
0.71 after he had his first goal of the season against the Montreal Canadiens and Carlisle
was the leader in the defense tonight, which is an unsung hero from the blue line tonight
and Carlisle who gets a goal, gets an assist and him and Ben Kindle basically orchestrate
this offense tonight.
If they get a little bit of help from, you know, Malkin and Crosby, even Robertson and
They get some help there.
They win this game handedly, but unfortunately, these were the only guys who really showed
up tonight, put some special performances on like Miroshov did as well, and unfortunately
is wasted away with a loss and the Winnipeg Jets winning three to two in this game.
So going forward, Pittsburgh must build on its bright spots.
I mean, obviously we see Ben Kindle obviously having a good game tonight, which is bright
spot Miroshov as well, Declan Carlisle.
So going forward, we just got to build on this, on these performances from these guys,
lift them up, try next game when they do start chipping in a bit more.
The veterans kind of got to, you know, kind of bite down on the mouth guard a little bit,
go to battle, try to win, win this game.
I don't think that they sat back at all or anything, but I do think when you see those
guys chipping in the unlikely guys to chip in, you got to try to do your best to chip
in as well.
And that's how you're going to win hockey games.
And like I said, the next game is now going to be up against the Capitals on October the
7th.
As we see here, we won the first two games of the season, seven to nothing and then six
to four, six to five in overtime against Montreal.
Then we take our first loss of the year here against the Jets three to two.
And unfortunately, you know, that's the way it is.
You're going to lose games in an 84 game season.
Tonight is probably a game you would like to get back after seeing these performances
and just, you know, having another little collapse when you tie the game, the momentum's
on your side and then you can't carry that momentum forward to take the lead.
I think we're going to see some things from Dan Muse here try to fix this and try to like
instill this into the minds of these players to kind of say, OK, like when we have momentum,
we have control of this game.
We really got to go out and convert on these opportunities and turn them into goals.
So hopefully we can see that going forward.
And it's definitely some positives to take from this game for sure.
And hopefully, you know, we got some good performances from our young guys.
So when it all gets put together, this Pittsburgh Penguins team will be a dominant force like
we've seen in Philly.
So hopefully you guys enjoyed the video.
Hopefully you guys enjoyed the game going up against Ovi in his last season here on
October 7th.
It's going to be a good one.
It's going to be a tough matchup, but we're going to keep you up to date on everything
heading into this game.
