Hello everyone! Today we are creating something truly elegant yet incredibly simple, a beautiful embroidery pattern perfect for a dress bodice or a neckline. I've already secured my linen fabric into the hoop. To guide our stitches, we're going to mark a small grid of dots. I've chosen this gorgeous khaki green linen for today's project. Linen has such a lovely rustic texture and this pattern turns it into something so delicate. I'm making five lines of dots leaving just a tiny gap of two to three millimeters between each one. I'm using a heat erasable pen to mark these tiny dots. You can use a ruler or a piece of plastic cross stitch canvas like this to keep your spacing perfectly even. There is something so satisfying about prepping the canvas. For the embroidery, I'm using this soft light green floss. It creates such a subtle tone-on-tone contrast with the khaki linen. I have separated it into three strands for just the right amount of texture and threaded my needle. A simple knot at the end to secure it and we are ready. I'm just clipping my hoop onto a stand now. This keeps my hands free and the camera completely steady so you can follow every movement clearly. We'll begin at the top left dot, gently pulling the thread through to start a row of classic running stitches along the first line. Once we reach the end of the first row, we'll turn around and move right to left for the second line. But notice how we are placing these stitches. We want them to alternate, sitting right opposite the empty spaces of the first line. This brick-like layout is the secret to the pattern. We'll repeat this for the third line, left to right, just taking our time enjoying the rhythm of the needle going up and down until all five lines are complete. Now for the magic part, the weaving. I've threaded the same light green floss but this time into a tapestry needle. We use a tapestry needle because its blunt rounded tip glides smoothly under the stitches without piercing or snagging the linen fabric. Starting at the top left again, we weave under the running stitches at an angle, sliding from top to bottom, then bottom to top. See how it creates this effortless flowing wave effect. Once we reach the right end, we secure it and bring the needle back to the left to start the second wave right underneath. It runs completely parallel to the first. We'll do the same for the third wave. Now we do the exact same for the third wave, starting from the bottom left, letting the needle glide smoothly parallel to our first two rows. Then the fourth and fifth, just filling the grid with these beautiful rhythmic ripples. If you want this pattern to truly pop, you can try a variation I love to call the contrast look. Instead of matching your thread, choose a striking high contrast colour. Imagine this deep khaki green linen paired with a crisp cream, vintage ivory or even a soft shimmering gold floss. Suddenly those gentle waves become a beautiful bold frame that instantly catches the eye. Here I've applied the pattern along a square neckline of a top.
