Meet the 6 new skills of 2023: the Biles II, the Nakamura, the Nemour, the Godwin, the Moerz and the Scissors Leap.
A total of six new skills were added to the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Code of Points in 2023,
with five of them now officially carrying the name of their creator.
Let's take a closer look at these elements.
A new vault entered the rulebook of the discipline in 2023.
The Biles II, commonly known as the Urchenko Double Pike,
was submitted at the World Championships by American gymnast Simone Biles,
and received a 6.4 start value, becoming the highest rated vault in women's gymnastics.
The Olympic champion now has a total of five eponymous skills in the Code of Points.
On the uneven bars, three new elements were created, starting with the Nakamura,
which was submitted at the Junior World Championships by Japan's Haruka Nakamura.
It consists of a piked deltchev, and was valued at D by the technical committee.
There's also the Nemur, commonly known as an Inbar Nebieva.
It was created at the African Championships by Algerian gymnast Kélia Nemur,
and given a G rating, making it one of the highest rated releases on this apparatus.
And lastly, we have the Godwin, a Weiler Kip Full.
It carries the name of Australian gymnast Georgia Godwin,
who successfully performed it at the Tel Aviv World Challenge Cup, and it received an E rating.
On floor, two new skills were added to the table of elements.
The Mertz, a pike jump with a full twist to land in front-lying support,
was submitted by Austrian gymnast Alisa Mertz at the European Championships, and given a C rating.
And the scissors leap forward with legs above horizontal, which was given an A value.
This element was performed by Romania's Ana Barbosu at the European Championships.
However, it does not carry her name, since the minimum required difficulty for it to happen is C.
