A wing of a three-storey building in Kyiv was reduced to rubble in a Russian missile attack on Monday morning. Officials said it wounded at least seven people and saw missile debris fall in three other parts of the city.
Andriy Yermak, the Ukrainian president's chief of staff, said Russia and its president were "terrorists" in response to the attack, comparing them to ISIS, which claimed responsibility for a deadly terror attack in Moscow on Friday.
"This is a residential area, and an educational facility. There are no military entities here, so the only explanation for this (attack) is terrorism, nothing else," Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Barista Maria Yevstafieva narrowly escaped from major injuries — or possibly death — when the window of the café she was working in, blew towards her after the strike hit nearby.
At first, there was a bang, like a sound of an air-raid siren, and then, in a couple of seconds, the alarm went off.
But I couldn't hear the alarm.
For a second, I don't know, 5-10, and then a very loud bang.
I just hear the glass flying out.
And it was very annoying that I was in a hoodie.
I just put on a hood, sat down under the bar, like this, squeezed, and tried to climb as much as possible there.
But the fridge didn't fit in a little.
And that's it, and it saved me.
Well, I didn't suffer much, just a hand, and the hoodie just broke.
And so, everything is fine.
I think this is the least that could happen.
Because if it was a little closer here, anything could happen.
We were a little stressed, cried a little.
But we will live, we will rebuild Makako.
We have guests, our regulars, new guests.
All together, all to victory, so to speak.
To victory.
This is a classic missile, without an air alarm.
Because the air alarm sounded at the same time as the explosions that took place in the city.
And the explosions occurred at the same time in the Pechersk region, Solomensk and Darniv regions.
By a lucky chance, in this educational institution, a children's educational institution,
no one died because it was closed.
At the moment, five people have asked for help.
Two of them are disabled, including a 16-year-old girl.
This is an exclusive residential area, the first.
The second is an educational institution.
No military facilities are located here.
And this can only be explained by one thing.
This is terrorism, nothing more.
