The director discusses his latest film, \"Disclosure Day,\" reflecting on its place within his body of work alongside \"Close Encounters of the Third Kind\" and \"E.T.\" He emphasizes the film's goal of credibility and realism regarding the UFO/UAP phenomenon, suggesting that current scientific advancements and circumstantial evidence make the idea of off-world interaction increasingly plausible.
Congratulations on this film. Thank you. You absolutely knocked it out of the park.
It's that kind of praise. Oh, I have to hold my ears or take my hearing aids out.
It's like, you know, I'm still working. This is not like, you know, this is, for me, this was a
summation movie in this order. Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extraterrestrial,
and Disclosure Day. They all have a reason for their positioning, you know. I just plan on,
like, goosing everyone and being interviewed by E.T. You can photobomb or E.T. bomb anything you
want. I did E.T. photobomb. Okay, good. Well, we hope you come back. I love what you're wearing,
but I thought you all were going to come in in T-shirts inspired by your movies. I didn't expect
that. They wouldn't tell me, and they showed up, and they saw all that, and I felt bad because I
didn't wear one of my own T-shirts. How did you guys decide who was going to wear which shirt?
Well, Emily's favourite film is Jaws, and she's the lead of the movie, so she should have first
choice. I love E.T. I think it just worked out perfectly. I adamantly told them that if any of
them showed up in Jaws, there was going to be hell to pay. They know full well that's my favourite,
but I did threaten their lives if they showed up wearing Jaws. I was like, that's mine. Well,
it's the best T-shirt. Iconic. What made you laugh the most, and which one did you least expect
that they were wearing of the film? Well, it's not that so much. It's the idea that I have a chance
to make movies with massively talented actors, and I've always adored the actor. I have actors in my
family, not me, but others, but this movie was really very special to me because this is a
character piece. Do you understand what she's saying? I hear it. It's gibberish. I can't understand
it. And I can. What's happening to me? People are starved for the truth. I wanted this movie
not so much to be incredible. I wanted it to be credible. I wanted it to have the credibility of
where we are in the evolution of the entire UFO, UAP phenomenon, that we are actually approaching
a time in history where our histories could be changed when the truth comes out. And so,
in that sense, this is a little more of a realistic contemporary movie compared to E.T.,
which was a poem about family and home and missing parents and close encounters,
which was almost operatic, and yet the secret of what happened under Devil's Tower never got out
to the world. Suddenly, I got to make a movie where this gets out to the world. Amazing. You've
seen nearly fugacity of you in 1977. Well, in 1977, I didn't know anything about black holes.
I didn't know anything about bending time, the time-space continuum. I didn't. I mean, I was just
hooked on what's in the sky, especially hooked on what people see, and they can't explain. But
science, physics have reached a point where it actually is plausible that great distances,
light years, can be sort of the physics of the light year, can be overcome by a whole new
sort of field of study. And I just think it's making what could be happening more
credible than ever before. Amazing. And lastly, how close do you think we are to an actual disclosure day?
That's not up to me, you know. I made a science fiction movie, but the foundation of my movie,
I think, is overwhelmingly, let's put it this way, the basis of this film
is the circumstantial evidence that is overwhelming in favor of the fact that we
have been interacting with the off-world species for eight decades, if not longer.
Incredible. You just did a fabulous job with this film. Thank you. We are so happy for audiences
to finally see it. Me too. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. I love
calling you ET. Please, we love having you follow us. Makes me feel like I'm at home.
