Hello everyone this is Songkran. In this video you're going to see Thailand's biggest and
wildest festivals of the year. Songkran is Thailand's new year's celebration and it signals
the beginning of the rainy season. Festivities go on throughout the kingdom but one of the
largest celebrations is right here in Pattaya. Okay here we go it's Songkran we're gonna head
up Soi 7 here just off beach road it's gonna be a battle. Stick around. The official dates for
Songkran in Thailand is April 13th to 15th but here in Pattaya the party started on April 11th
and went until the 19th. Nine long days of crazy traffic, water fights, loud music and dancing
all day long. Soi 7 was a war zone. Bars on both sides of the alley made for an epic battle passing
through the middle. No chance of getting through without getting soaked or a random crotch grab.
Whoops. All right now we're heading down Soi 8. I want to send a special shout out to all my sisters
at the Aussie Bar. My good friend Em, the owner and all her staff definitely know how to party.
Every time I pop by I get a warm welcome from all the ladies and you will too. Stop by the Aussie Bar
say hello and tell them Tom sent ya. Here on the corner of beach road and Soi 8 was another
favorite hangout of mine. Poppy's Bar on the left, Lucky Star on the right. There was the Tiger Bar,
the MC Bar and another favorite was Bar 1. This short section of beer bars has given me memories
and friendships to last a lifetime. Every afternoon I could find my good friend Scott at Bar 1.
Scott is from Australia. We became good friends and been hanging out together for a few months.
He's heading back to Aussie soon. So glad I met you bro. Cheers. Until next time. Further up Soi 8
is many more bars, restaurants, massage shops and hotels. I'm going to recommend on your next trip
to Pattaya to stay at the Sunshine Hotel and Residence. Ideally located in the center of the
action, this hotel has great prices, clean rooms and soft beds. However, this may not be the place
for you if you're trying to get to sleep before 2 a.m. As the days progressed, traffic got worse.
You always had to keep your eyes open for an unsuspecting motorbike speeding in front of you.
Like that. Each day the congestion grew thicker, the pathways got narrow and hundreds of teenage
motorcycle riders trying not to crash while they get a water cannon to the face. I was fortunate
and only got hit by a motorbike once. I just got hit by a motorbike there no biggie. On the final
day, April 19th, Beach Road was closed to vehicles from Center Street down to Walking Street.
The Beach Road pubs were a great place to people watch and the people came out by the thousands.
Of course, the world-famous Walking Street had its fair share of water, loud music and dancing
in the street. Well this is amazing and I have to say it tops my very first sound plan
10 years ago in Phuket. Have a look at some of the footage from Phuket.
Yeah, it was pretty good but check this out.
And when the sun went down, things got crazier. The water battles continued, clothing started to
peel off, loud music everywhere and more random grabs below the belt. This definitely was
the party of the year. The water fights, music and dancing went till the early hours of the morning.
And just like that, nine days of celebrations and water fights come to an end. Time to put the
water gun away and say goodbye. Goodbye to the ice water, to the groin and the random grabs to
the midsection from strangers. I'm gonna say goodbye to having chalk in my ears for days.
Songkran is a festival for all ages. No matter who you are or where you're from,
Songkran brings people together. Well that's it for this video folks. Thanks for watching.
