Mel, Sharp-tailed Grouse gather together in a group called Alak.
They're here for a dance competition.
The best movers will win the chance to mate.
They scout prospective partners from the slide line.
With the stage set, the males go toe to toe.
Performers rapidly stamp their feet and check their tail's fitter.
Each defends his own spot.
If a dancer doesn't back down, they settle in the old-fashioned way.
It's no-holds-barred.
