Off-Grid Generator Service: A Problem You Need to Check!

Our off-grid generator is our last line of defence when the batteries run low or we go several days without enough sunshine. So keeping it properly serviced and ready to run is essential.

In this video, I'm carrying out a full service on our Kompak 6100 SE diesel generator, which is mechanically the same as the Hyundai DHY6000. Along the way, I discover a problem with the fuel hoses that other owners of these generators may want to check on their own machines.

Despite being only around four years old and having done approximately 100 hours, several of the original fuel hoses have deteriorated and developed splits. I replace them with reinforced fuel hose and complete the service before bleeding the fuel system, starting the generator and checking for leaks.

* Servicing the Compact 6100 SE / Hyundai DHY6000 diesel generator
* Changing the engine oil
* Cleaning and replacing the oil strainer
* Replacing the air filter
* Changing the fuel filter
* Inspecting the fuel hoses for cracks, splits and deterioration
* Replacing the original hoses with reinforced fuel hose
* Bleeding the diesel fuel system
* Starting the generator and checking for fuel and oil leaks

Important tip for owners: Don't just service the engine and assume everything else is fine. Check the fuel hoses carefully, particularly around connections and less accessible areas. On my generator, several hoses had deteriorated badly despite the relatively low number of running hours.

This generator is an important part of our off-grid solar setup. When solar production is low or the batteries need backup, a reliable generator can make all the difference.
