Bulgaria’s Paloma Spiridonova and Brazil’s Ana Luíza Lima have both shared videos training a skill that’s not yet featured in the Code of Points: it consists of a double salto backward laid-out with a half twist off, which would likely receive an E-rating, one tenth higher than the so common Double Layout.
The mechanics of this new dismount are in line with the Biles I on floor.
The Uneven Bars table of elements has seen a remarkable growth over the past decade,
with new moves added each year and an ever-increasing level of difficulty,
and we may see a new dismount joining the list soon.
Bulgaria's Paloma Spiridonova and Brazil's Ana Luisa Lima
have both shared videos training a skill that's not yet featured in the Code of Points.
It consists of a double salto backward laid out with a half twist off,

There is a similar dismount in the table of elements already, called the Blanco,
named after Colombia's Bibiana Blanco, however the technique is slightly different.
The committee describes it as a swing forward to a salto backward stretched with a half turn
into a salto forward stretched, so in this case the twist happens between saltos,
Since there's no footage available, here's an example of Trinity Thomas,
from the United States, performing a version that resembles it on the floor exercise.
The mechanics of the new dismount, however, are more in line with the Biles One,
in which the athlete performs two backwards somersaults in a stretched position
and adds a half turn before she finds the ground,
so it's the timing of the twist that sets these two skills apart.
A blind landing is often harder to stick, since the gymnast cannot properly spot the mat,
and can also be more injury prone if the rotation is not all the way complete,
so it's going to take some serious determination
and a sharp technique to nail this element in a competitive setting.
Do you think we'll see the double layout half out in competition anytime soon,
and what rating would you award it?
