Marty Supreme — Set in 1952, Marty Supreme follows Marty Mauser, an ambitious New York table-tennis player who dreams of becoming the best in the world and making the sport famous in America. He works at his uncle’s shoe store but is obsessed with finding money and opportunities to compete internationally. Marty travels to London for a major tournament, where he meets former actress Kay Stone and becomes involved with wealthy businessman Milton Rockwell. After facing defeat and getting into increasingly complicated situations back home, Marty becomes determined to reach Japan for another chance against Japanese champion Koto Endo. His ambition repeatedly creates problems for his relationships and responsibilities, including with his childhood friend Rachel Mizler, who is pregnant with his child. Eventually, Marty gets his chance to compete in Japan and fights for the recognition he has chased throughout the story. The film explores ambition, obsession, selfishness, relationships, and the cost of pursuing greatness.
