MAKING A SOLID SILVER CURB CHAIN

So this is my first attempt at making a chain and I'm going to show you what I attempted and what
worked. The initial idea was to cast some silver wire four millimeters thick and use that to make
jump rings. After casting the wire segments I used a lathe to shave them down. I ended up with seven
links that I planned to solder together and turn them into jump rings. With one silver rod made I
attempted bending it into a loop and well it broke again and again. So the connections weren't
strong enough so I went to plan B and bought some silver wire at half the thickness. Being a little
thinner I can use the handle of this file to shape the wire around. After turning eight to ten times
I cut off the end. We then cut straight down the wire which gives us the jump rings. To connect
them I open up one link and place two links inside and then clamp it shut. Once the links
are in place we can solder them shut. I decide to clean up the solder with a file. I used a piece of
the wire to make an end piece for the vice and I also found some wire strippers that fit perfectly
into the end loops. So I clamp the chain in and begin to twist it and then suffer from multiple
breaks. Damn this solder is weak as f**k. Anyways I ended up turning the links into pairs or trios
which seemed to work okay. The longest part that didn't break was only four links long so yeah I
need to get some stronger solder. We now need to reattach all the links together to form a chain.
Once they're all attached I place it back into the vice and give it a final twist
with the aid of some pliers. With the chain made I can now go about filing away any scratch marks
and dents while giving the chain a buffing polish. And there you have it my first attempts at chain
making. I would need roughly two of these to make a bracelet. Well that's it for this video
so I'll see you next time.
