Are you ready to make your first balloon sword? Let's get started. Hello everyone. In this video,
I'm going to teach you everything you need to know to successfully make your first balloon
sword. First, a few things, a few tips about working with balloons. Number one, make sure
you have good quality balloons. Now pros use high quality, very thick and strong balloons
that are especially for twisting. But you should be able to get by with your 99 cent store, dollar
store balloons. They should be just fine. Just make sure they're not old and brittle because
if they are old and brittle, they will tend to pop. Second thing is check your fingernails. Make
sure there are no sharp edges. Sometimes you have a sharp edge that will catch on a balloon
and tend to pop it. And so those are two tips to help reduce popping. A little bit about balloon
making itself. When making balloon animals, we always recommend that you leave a little bit of
uninflated end. The reason why is that anytime you twist a balloon, you actually displace a
little air which has to go into this section here. So if you inflate your balloon all the
way at the very beginning and you begin twisting, your balloon is going to get very tight and
eventually pop. And let's get making our sword. We're going to switch to a first person view
so you can see it from your own perspective. For your first balloon sword, inflate the balloon to
about an inch from the end. We're going to start with the nozzle. Now you're going to make what's
called a basic twist. Now something a lot of people don't know is that it's easier to twist a balloon
when you pinch and then perform your twist. So keep that in mind and you'll see me doing that
as well. It's a basic technique used in balloon twisting. Now we're going to start with a basic
twist of about an inch. So pinch, twist. Now something you need to know is that please don't
do this. Don't do what I do right at this moment. But I'm going to let go with my left hand and
watch what happens. See, it comes undone and you don't want that to happen. So watch what I do. I'm
going to catch up with you now. I'm going to pinch and then twist. Now watch what I do with my left
hand. My left hand actually creeps over and holds the next section and that way it doesn't come
undone. Now we're going to make what's called a fold twist. We're going to fold the balloon in
half right about there and then use my left hand to hold. That way it doesn't come undone.
Now I'm going to make another basic twist here with my right hand. So this time I'm going to
pinch with my right hand and twist. Hold it and you'll have something that looks like this.
Now we're going to twist this section into this section. And there you have it, a fold twist and
small basic twist. Now take the end of your balloon. I'm just going to kind of move all the
air to the end so it comes out even. You're going to essentially thread the needle. You're going to
take this end, feed it through the loop here and there you have a sword balloon. Now you have two
choices with this balloon. You can leave it kind of sloped up like this and you get kind of a saber
look. Or if you like, you can actually bend it the other way like this and it gives it a different
look. So it's up to you. Let's go to balloon number two. Inflate your balloon to about two inches from
the end starting with the nozzle end. I'm going to make a basic twist of about five inches. This will
form the handle of the sword. So pinch, twist. Now you're going to make a series of fold loops.
So hold with the left hand, fold and that's a good size right about there. And now twist.
Twist this here into this here. Now repeat and you want to make the next one about the same size. So
hold, fold, hold it with the left hand, twist. Now twist this into here. And if you like,
you can make a third one of these fold twists to complete the sword or you can actually give
this sword out just as it is. I hope you had fun making your first balloon sword. Please give us

watching. See you next time.
